When I watch the game play. The word that comes to mind is "genius".

How is it better than Penumbra? I liked Penumbra, but I'm bored of the style... Is the AI better, that was the thing that really annoyed me from Penumbra.
Re: Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Its hard to say how its better...its different.
Who said it was better?
Its definitely not worse though.

It looks the same. The only thing I see different is the "insanity" mechanic.Gota wrote:Its hard to say how its better...its different.

Re: Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Well, I'm playing Penumbra now, as my aforementioned housemate plays Amnesia. Amnesia appears to remove the admittedly awkward physical combat mechanics of Penumbra, then substitute the arbitrary environmental effects on player perspective + health system with an insanity system supported with arbitrary scripted effects. If you wander around in the dark for too long, not only do you miss details but the ambient horror makes it more difficult to play through degrading your sanity and control. I suspect that more things occur as you become less and less sane. The AI appears to be considerably better, though it sees less use in the form of active non-player characters for the early areas of the game - between engine improvements and the increased production value, Amnesia rests more heavily on atmosphere and perspective effects than wolves or spiders.
Watching Amnesia convinced me to purchase Penumbra. I can tell that Amnesia is a significant step up.

Thumbs up. I'll keep an eye out, maby pick it up when it comes on sale. I'm pretty much the poorest I've ever been right now so mehNeddie wrote:Well, I'm playing Penumbra now, as my aforementioned housemate plays Amnesia.
