Metal Features

Post by SinbadEV »

I havn't managed to get features working properly myself, but I've seen them done (acid bridge, actually I think I may have made those crystals :P)

I was thinking that when people make visable metal patches it would help to put an actual model of a metal patch over top of it, that way it would have the fine detail you need to make it look good from all angles. But set it as walkable over and indestructable.

Same thing for those Fugly sides in metal heck and other core-prime maps... You could just make a frame with good textures and place it over top of the sides... they wouldn't deform at all, but they would still be functional... just a decorative frame over working terrain.

Onother thing... when I see a metal map, it always makes me think I'm seeing a space map, and with the sky-boxes and the void tag this effect could be improved on... but those edges are going to be paper thin, you could make nice metal edgeing and place it alone the outside to make it look more like an installation instead of a big metal sheet in space.

On Void

I still think the best idea I heard about void was to mirror the landscape at the waterline. Then, you just push your sheet a bit above the water line and you've got a little thickness to your installation.
