Jion a Mod Team?

Post by xzalion »

How do I join an mod team, I have great knowledge of UI / HUD I am really good at it! I don't know how does the implantation work hey, but some engines use Transparent files etc, which I can make.

I feel it's time to help out an Team here & make an nice game, Although I am currently bust with my own project, but all my work is up to date for at least the next 3 months. But I will love to get more involved at this site, Since I am an huge Supreme Commander 1 & 2 fan this engine will hands down great something similar.

What say you?

I don't think there's much call for GUI design since just about everybody can do that...

I don't agree. There is lots of poeple who can make GUI but it's simple the best that stands out of them all.

Well, at the moment it'd be pretty easy to top the best looking UI widgets, you just have to know a fair bit of Lua in order to be able to code it.

Search for Beherith's Resource Bars, FPS/Clock and Tooltip widgets for some inspiration. They're probably the prettiest GUI elements out there right now. Most other authors of GUI's here have gone for a simple, usable and well coded approach rather than all fancy graphics.

If you were hoping to make a GUI without doing any coding at all, you'll be disappointed, unless somebody else is willing to do it for you which is pretty unlikely.

Concerning the content creation the problem here is that you really need to be able to code in Lua to get any UI / HUD done as there in the end exists no easy to handle framework where you just plug your graphics in, do some basic settings and get a nice, versatile and performant result. That's why the actual graphics are the minor amount of work for a good GUI in Spring...

Concerning joining a mod team - well it's a bit difficult. Usually it's more like people try to get into the development for a mod than mods really being advertised in order to get some developers (which is quite understandable as next to no developer here is just idling but rather already has projects of its own or has picked a project to join). I suggest you have a look at the Project Subforum, look which projects might need help and just ask someone responsible if they can make good use of your help...

Joining CA team is simple - pick any stuff you want to do, get source, submit your changes.
Currently highest priority is ingame gui development and new models/textures.
You can catch most devs in #ca
