Hi

Hi

Discuss the source code and development of Spring Engine in general from a technical point of view. Patches go here too.

Hi,

My name is Chris. My friend Sorn and I have been looking at TASpring recently and we both want to pitch in with the development. I have been programming for 6 years professionally and almost 12 years as a hobby. I work in C++ but have used lots of other languages over the years: pascal, vb, java etc. I focus mainly on graphics and cross platform development these days. I have experience with Torque 3D engine and have also written a 3d engine (opengl) for seismic visualization. The only areas that I don't have experience in are AI and networking but I'm interested in learning both. I definitely would like to port TA to other OS's. I work on BSD, Linux, Mac, Solaris and Windows currently.

A good place to start poking around is the wiki - http://taspring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Main_Page and the sourceforge project -http://sourceforge.net/projects/springrts/

if your interested in helping this be cross platform try the linux project - http://taspring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Linux

Otherwise... I'm not acctually a Dev... but I'm sure they will let you know where to look/help-out...

I'm also not a developer but, there's so many known things were you can help that i don't even know where to start.
- I supose that helping the port to Linux (that suposedly is very far, by now) would be welcome. (i know i would welcome deerly a Linux port)
- You could also try to give a help at the mapmaking comunity who seems to be having troubles making a map-maker that allows to place trees and other features at will and properly aligned.
- There is a big gap in the AI section. I think Zaphod is writing (again) a simple AI for Spring but, still, this is probably the most lacking part of the project.
- In the inner works of Spring, you better ask the developers where you can help with. Surely there is plenty where you can dive in. They seem to have an IRC chanel or something which i never remember the name.

I would guess Alantai's family has some issues with him spending too much time in the PC.
But that is just me guessing and i wouldn't know.

You can help the Linux port by adding good error handling.
And we need some extencive bugtesting.
So just join the Linux mailinglist and start hacking the code.

If you have experience with 3D formats from modelling programs it would be usefull if you help us with some converters for a new 3D format we are planning for the models.

Otherwise look around and see what might need improving or check the buglist on sourceforge for some "inspiration".

No I didnt think you did, but when you've learnt so much of your skills from attempting your first project and your first project is a skirmish AI you want to do it right, and when you are stuck and you need help, it isnt very nice to have nothing but a prompt saying please insert your nonexistant MSDN cd. But that hasnt stopped me ;D.

Paulomorfeo was more correct there. Triaxx I have not stopped, I simply reached a moment where I nearly tipped over the brink into the world of insanity and needed to pull myself out. You would know this if you checked darkstars recently. Granted I shoul update the CVS, and change the wiki, zaphod ahsnt even updated the AI projects page to show JCAI even exists.

I think that AI would do good to have someone else join in. However regardless of wether you join the JCAI or the TAI camp, I suggest you do what cain has been doing, creating generic tools that could suite both of them. Try writting the first non-sy groupAI even!
