Runtime Error

Post by Gigamez »

Hi to all,

My system is composed by:
- AMD Phenom II 965Be x4 3.4Ghz @3.9Ghz (it's tested and stable in occt after 1Hour of linpack, but i have the same problem with no OC)
- Ati Radeon 5850 1Gb DDR5 with the latest official driver release
- Win7 Pro x64 with the latest update
- OCZ Platinum 4Gb DDR3 1600Mhz Cas7

I have a problem with spring: after few minutes of gaming spring.exe crashes (always during the game/spectating). This it happens in a casual way but often in a time between 5 to 20 minutes.
Before closing the program it appear a little box with written: "This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's Support team for more information"

So, i tried to uninstall and reinstall completely.. but i have the same problem. I tried also to remove the OverClock from the CPU and to launch the game in a minimal graphical settings with no success. :(

so.. what i have to do? :P

Thanks for the help! :D

Thx for the reply Beherith!

My infolog is in the bottom of the post.

I'm trying to lauch the game in "WinXp sp3 pack" mode and also with the admin privileges.. it's sooner yet, but probably my problem it's solved only with this little "fix"!

I'll inform you if it will ok.. now i'm testing in a spect mode! ;)

Thx for the patience :P

Thats odd, is that the whole infolog?
Is your pc overclocked? If yes, did you stress test it with prime95 or orthos?
Have you tried up or downgrading drivers?

no idea what can be the cause here.

1. don't run spring in xp compatibility mode, it should work fine natively.
2.

Code: Select all

Error opening C:\Program Files (x86)\Spring\maps\Dworld_V1.sd7: Unexpected end of file (truncated?)
- delete this file
3. disable reflective/refractive water if you're using it
4. generally try running the game with most lua disabled and on lowest settings and gradually reenable stuff.

This was my whole infolog..
Yes, my pc is overclocked.. and i stressed it with prime and OCCT for check stability. The problem however remains also if i remove the OverClock..
I had problems with the actual and the last but one release of video driver.

i've seen that the game usually crashes if i use the "minimap commands" such moving the camera by clicking in the minimap..
Yesterday i tried to looking some games without using the minimap commands and i never crashed for 3/4 game in a row..

since now for testing the game i used the lowest graphic settings (with ALL disable).. I used it also when i post the error message before! :D
I've tried to reinstall spring, the video drivers and the c++ libraries.. nothing. :|

my problem is very strange.. since some month ago with the same configuration all worked fine.. :(

Hi everybody, I have the same problem. Running on windows 7 ultimate 64x, with AMD Athlon X2 Dual-core, HD 4870, 2Gb DDR2 Ram. The game runs smoothly, but crashes after about 20 minutes of gameplay. The system delivers exactly the same error message. I have to mention, that this didn┬┤t happen in earlier releases. I also tried various suggested settings configuration, but it just keeps crashing between 10-30 minutes.
Other games (GTA 4, Stalker, Flatout 2 etc . .) run fine.

Oh yes, one more thing. I think A.I. has to do something with the runtime error on Win 7. I┬┤ve just played a few test games with no ai bots, and everything was fine.

I hope this might give you a clue, what could be wrong. :(

You must understand - the bots are an elaborate scheme to frighten away single-player gamers from the Spring Engine, so we can preserve it's purity as a multiplayer-only platform. By repeatedly crashing and spamming error messages, we hope to frighten off the single-player base while still maintaining good quality gameplay for multiplayer gamers who are better people.

Well, that┬┤s nice. Too bad I┬┤m a single player type of a gamer.

Idea for W7 Peeps.

Download a Portable version: http://springrts.com/wiki/Download

Make a new "Spring" folder on the root of one of your hard drives. (SpringPortable or something)

go to the properties screen for the folder and adjust access permissions so that your current windows user has full read-write execute permissions on this folder.

Extract the portable version into this folder.

See if you have problems still (will eliminate access permissions as a potential cause of the problem)

Well, I tried your advice, it doesn┬┤t seem to work. The Spring Portable crashes as same as the installer version, but a bit earlier. :?
Tried two games with AIs, here is the infolog. I gonna try some other graphical and game settings and see, if it makes any difference.

Why in all user cases is stacktrace empty? This gives no clue to even start in digging the problem.

probably because there's no address space left and/or the crash happens in the gfx driver.
