(implausible?) Idea:Steam distribute Spring
Anyone have any opinions on this. I think it would be a neat idea to get some new people to try spring. I would not begin to fathom how to do it exactly...
Re: (implausible?) Idea:Steam distribute Spring
Alantai Firestar has a theory about why Steam won't ever consider distributing Spring.
Nevertheless, Spring is now sold through Impulse at 20$.

Re: (implausible?) Idea:Steam distribute Spring
I don't want to quite derail my thread just yet but i'm just so curious. Why would someone pay 20 bucks for the engine if you can just download it for free?
Re: (implausible?) Idea:Steam distribute Spring
Because an engine with no game data is no fun.
Shelling 20$ is the only way to get the "Full single-player campaign" that you don't get in the free version.
Beside I said Impulse sells Spring, I didn't say anyone bought Spring from impulse.

Re: (implausible?) Idea:Steam distribute Spring
Does steam only distribute pay for games? Could say like KP! released with spring on spring?
Re: (implausible?) Idea:Steam distribute Spring
IGN gave PURE a pretty good rating.
Re: (implausible?) Idea:Steam distribute Spring
I actually wrote to Steam about distributing my game, and they've never returned my emails. IDK whether the issue's the GPL and Steam's DRM, or whether they just thought the game sucked, or because I haven't sought a publisher, or what.

Re: (implausible?) Idea:Steam distribute Spring
I've had much the same experience with steam. Only one of my emails was replied to, and that contained nothing real helpful. Impulse however, is much more amenable to the idea.
Re: (implausible?) Idea:Steam distribute Spring
Sorta. One of the things I've learned along the way is that many "indie" games that you see ads for have publishers behind them, just like a so-called AAA games. There are some exceptions, like Mount and Blade, but it's a lot more complicated than it looks. Anyhow, IDK, I'll be bugging them again when 1.3 is finally done.they do indie games...

Steam is yet another annoying piece of drm bullshit
Re: (implausible?) Idea:Steam distribute Spring
I have no problems with Steam.
Re: (implausible?) Idea:Steam distribute Spring
I still think it's best if we make Spring world friendly and bug ridden before we start to market it.

I don't see how... I buy a game on steam, download it and play it. No dvd switching or serials to put in. Plus I also use steam and only steam for IMing. You can also add non steam games to the launcher, which allows you to have use of the steam overlay in those games, at which point you can also use it for voice chat within those games.smoth wrote:Steam is yet another annoying piece of drm bullshit
Re: (implausible?) Idea:Steam distribute Spring
Anyway, we would have individual games distributed through Steam, not the whole engine selection.
