SpringLobby windows testing

Post by koshi »

In attempt to resolve the long standing updater issues with SpringLobby I've seperated the updating code into its own executable. I now would ask anyone to please try it out. We desperately need more feedback.

If you're willing to try, please follow this:
  • download http://filebin.springlobby.info/springl ... -win32.zip
  • open your the directory where spring is installed in explorer ( default is something like c:\Program Files\spring )
  • make a backup copy of springlobby.exe (select it, ctrl+c , ctr+v )
  • close springlobby if it's running
  • extract everything from the archive into the spring install directory, replacing any existing files
  • run springlobby again
  • start update
  • follow on screen instructions
If all went well you will have SpringLobby 0.40 (help->about) running after the restart.
Please report back both in case of success and failure, including which windows you're running, the path (directory) where SpringLobby is installed and in case of Windows Vista/7 if UAC is on. If an error occurs please note the exact message (screenshot would be fine). If the updater itself fails there should be an updater.log in the install directory that you could attach.

i get no GUI on this version, as i do for 0.40 (0.39 works). TaskManager shows springlobby.exe using 00% CPU, so it is not loading something.

had that too, killed and restarted the process and it updated and started cleanly.

edit: windows 7, non-uac dir, but had an uac prompt for a disk access.

Thanks for testing you guys.

baczek, hoijui: please try http://filebin.springlobby.info/springl ... -win32.zip that disables more libtorrent extensions on XP which might be the problem

Everyone else: I still need more feedback, pretty please.

Hi,

same problem with 0.41-RC4.
No Options-Tab, at closing the prg freeze and only "End NOW" helps.

Stuck ATM with 0.39 ...

Hehe ok, good call on the immediate shutdown of SL upon update. Updating went perfect, asked for UAC, updated and tried to restart. The funny part is the fact that apparently .40 is broken for me and refuses to start. How's that for ironic?

I'm really glad updating worked now for you. As for 0.40 being broken, that was not exactly unexpected.
I've released 0.41 now, which should get picked up if you try to update with the rc again. This should also have the no GUI startup bug fixed

Uh oh, some thing as .40, .41 starts and immediately says "Springlobby has stopped working, blah blah blah".

I manually downloaded 0.40 before which worked.
Updated to 0.42 today, which crashes right after startup (although it seems to work if I just ignore the crash message...). WinXP.

I used 0.42 to update, which redirected me to a webpage. I got 0.43.
Installed, updated again to 0.44.
While updating 0.43 freezed while it should have been restarting.
By manually killing it, and starting again, 0.44 is running now.

Update:
0.44 froze at shutdown too. Deleting springlobby.conf again helped. So I guess 0.43 crash was due to the same issue.
