Minimizing the game is causing bad textures

I play spring (mostly BA but a few games of CA and KP) in full screen mode in windows xp. I at times will get messages that minimize the game and drag us back to desktop. When I get back to the game my textures have turned dark and it becomes very hard to see my units. What causes this and is there any way to fix it?
