I had this problem downloading the installer for a game one time and support advised it was a problem with my computer.

Perhaps. More likely though the download server (sourceforge) is sending back a HTML page instead of the file. Most likely cause would be javascript there's a javascript meta redirect in there and the javascript isn't working or you have redirects blocked by a plugin.

I suspect the installer doesn't even talk to a browser and does the download internally so server error or a bad link is the most probable cause.
