I am offended that i am receiving an email such as this but I want to publicly address this point and give the devs a chance to speak on this subject.Date: Sat, 26 Sep 2009 23:20:05 +0200
Subject: Question about Gundam licensing.
I was just wondering as to why you do not release Gundam in an open source manner, i.e. GPL, LGPL, MIT, etc.
I just feel like it's a punch in the face of the devs at Spring.
Besides, if you GPL it, and some other mod developer find that he can learn from your code, he will (with a very high probability) credit you accordingly.
// Daniel.
Why is gundam not GPLED?
Gundam cannot be GPLED, anyone who reads the license or site will note that I do not GPL gundam as it is not my IP to GPL. If Gundam was mine to GPL that would be different.
Can people learn from the source?
People can read the code just fine. All of gundam's source is either gpl(where required) or PD. It is only the art that is not shared.
I do not appreciate that I am receiving this sort of email and I want to publicly speak against it. Over the years I have made efforts to help the devs and general spring community and I feel that the attitude in the open source community is offensive. The attitude of everything must be free for our taking is wrong and disrespectful.
I am repeatedly attacked or not sharing enough and while I am not one to toot my own horn. I feel that is is unfair and unjust as I have helped a lot of people and given a LOT back to the community. I have made many efforts over my time here to help in either advice, tips, code and even giving away large portions of my project.
I have spent days generating sky boxes for mapers and even did an entire map, including features, skybox and texture, GPLED it all at the request of a dev. I did the teamcolor textures back when they had to be converted to purple. I have given away my effects, code and many of my sprites(where appropriate) written animations(EE) and effects for many people here. I have even pitched in and helped with other projects by helping with models and textures. I have setup and still run a site dedicated to content creation. There is more but I am just outraged about this email.
So devs, here is your chance to say if you feel I have punched you in the face.
