Default springlobby?

Post by hughperkins »

It seems that the default spring lobby, AFAIK, but I could be wrong, is tasclient on Windows and springlobby on linux?

That means that relying on new features in a lobby - specifically the ability to provide options to AIs in my own case, but there are surely other examples - means waiting on implementations in at least two different lobby systems.

To what extent could it be possible to standardize the default spring lobby so that the same default springlobby is used across all platforms?

I'm guessing this is an old and well discussed issue, but just curious what the issues are really?

If you run the installer, you will notice springlobby is selected by default, while tasclient isn't.

the "problem" here is, that there is no boss that could define a standard. the standard is what hte users like more, and if i am not wrong, then there are still more TASClient users on windows then SpringLobby ones, and ppl usually stick to one client, once they settlet with it ...
In practice, there will not be a standard spring lobby over all platforms in hte next few years. Best is you talk to the lobby devs, and ask if thye have plans to implement it, or if help in this area was welcome. springlobby is C++ and TASClient is Delphi, SL devs will usually accept patches, i guess (maybe do some post processing), and if my memory is correct, Satirik would accept it too (not sure though), it just never happens that anyone writes patches there.
