An extanded installer is done

It includes most played and coolest maps and all the major TA mods.
Soon it will be possible for the devs of the mods to update the installer when they release new versions of their mods so that the installer is always updated.

It's too big, compress it. I prefer that you use 7-zip. I mean is anyone going to download a installer that is 500MB for a single game?

That's the point.
those that don't mind downloading 500 megs will have this option.
Those that do mind have the other options that were always available.

No offense but this is not 56k era.
Demos of games can take up to 2 gigs..Demos..
500 megs is nothing and is much better than having to download the regular installer and than breaking your newbie head as to what and where you need to find what you need to finally get a game going.

7zip is out of the question since many do not have it.
an installer will work for all windows users without the need to download additional software.

The point of this was making it easy for clueless newbies to download a package that would get them in game as fast as possible with low chances of them having to downland further content to start the first game.

The issue now is in how you present this on the spring website.
TA games have no real website so any amateur promotion of them leads to the spring website as opposed to projects like SWIW or S44 that have their own websites and advertisement.

If you put this link on the bottom and call it "don't download me" it loses it's purpose if you just call it TA installer it also loses it purpose.
Another issue is that calling it most played or most popular or "recommended installer" would obviously make people disregard the other games like KP and S44 which are on the website at a higher %.

Of course TA mods are 90% of the games played and the "TA" maps are the most played maps as in 99% of the games.

So what is needed is to represent it in a way that both assures noobs get it and that it does not prevent other projects form getting more players.
The whole "most popular but IP vs almost not played but not IP is a tough one and is something the entire community should debate on.

i will reiterate what was said on #s44:
1) we cannot have a link to anything using OTA content on our download page.
2) adding pics/links to project sites is probably a good idea.
3) removing download links is a bad idea because it's a download page.
4) new players _should_not_ be pointed at the spring download page and should get a game/mod installer from the game/mod's site instead. that's hard to fix for all mods, i know.
5) do not be afraid of clutter when number of free content game installers increases; the page will need a makeover then, anyway.

Yes i spoke with him only in the s44 thread and those are his opinion only.
You have no idea what your talking about.
Is i said i spoke with licho tobi and others on the sy channel and just before posting the link i asked licho and people in sy again about this to prevent exactly this kind of response.

If now,someone wishes to remove the download link I expect them to also go and discuss this before taking action especially after i was told there will be no problem with this and sefi did all the work he did to make sure this happens.
