a question about models

Post by Wartender »

Now, i love spring, and i play it all the time. Frankly, i consider it to be the open-source game with the best graphics/graphic effects (at least that i have seen).
There's just one thing that is kind of lacking in spring, and IMO that is the models/textures.
Now i'm not saying this has to be changed, i'm not demanding anything of course, i just wanted to ask:
What are the odds of there being a major model/texture remake/update to make spring look better? (specifically i'm talking about BA)
and if the odds are good, how long would it take?

I know it takes time and is pretty hard to do, so i'm not expecting anything, i'd love to help but i don't know anything about CAD or making this stuff, i just wanted to ask if there would be any chance of this happening soon, as IMO this is the only thing that is a little lacking in spring.

Most non-ta mods/games have good models/textures.

CA has has lots of different contributors of various quality.

huh, zwzsg is right, CA has better graphics... but it's a lot different from BA so i'm not really considering playing it... i haven't checked out non-ta mods but by the screenshots they look better too... oh well. i'm fine with the graphics as they are anyway :)

maybe try XTA, its also based on the original TA and imo has quite nice graphics. (not sure what ba looks like atm)

Also look here:http://springrts.com/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=9 to see what mods/models are in the making.

XTA is prettiest, cause it has the most consistent unit set, paired with very shiny effects.
To me, ba is second, also because of consistency.
CA is very shiny but some units are so god awfully half assed it ruins the illusion. (samson, stumpy, most t1 kbots, most new air units) The real kick in the nuts comes when all the units still use old wrecks.

@Beherith: CA values consistency, but if we were to wait for somebody to remodel all of our units in the same style, we'll never get anywhere! We want to move out of the TA IP ditch, towards new ground, and attract players from outside of the spring community, who come seeking unique, fun, visually attractive gameplay, and grant their wishes in the form of Complete Annihilation (TM).

:P

But honestly, any inconsistencies in our art style is just use making do with what we have, and, come to think of it, two factions who have been warring for Millennia would probably have many very differently styled unit designs in their arsenal.

spring is not ta.

Do not lump all the spring projects together with the stolen ta content.

This gets asked often...

The answer is simple: It won't be done anytime soon because it's not about just some models to replace but more like over 200 per faction. It's highly unlikely that a single person or even a couple of persons will sit down and start making all of them in one run. The reason for this most certainly is that it's a buttload of work that might take years of your freetime and you could have done an entire game of your own in the same time rather than redoing someone else's work you won't even use in your own game but give it away...

That's why you get new models just now and then from different artists. At some point we sure will have a complete replacement and we already have quite some stuff redone but until this gets done many years will pass by...

Gundam looks better than everything else in spring imo.

Swiw has some sexy eye candy but I am discounting it due to it being in private beta.

The other reason is that as soon as you start editing stuff, it's not BA anymore! Bawww!

Please, try and be a little less extreme in expressing your opinion.
