Textures gone?

Trying to diagnose a prob on a friend's machine. His sister has the same laptop as him, and she plays fine. She copied her spring folder to his machine, but when he loads he gets this:



I had him run the installer on top of the copied folder, to no avail. Now, I'm assuming a clean install should fix this, but why is it happening in the first place, and is there a quicker fix?

maybe he played Counter Strike before, and has some haxx on that allows see through walls... ?
