Arties visible on map

Post by Jools »

Just wonder what's the rationale behind the fact that the commander's D-Gun, Big Berha, Intimidator, Vulcan, Buzzsaw and Mobile artillery shells are visible on the map, even outside of line of sight.

I makes for easy spotting of these units.

I have no idea if this is done intentionally.
I remember that in starcraft siege tanks would 'light up' if they fired from outside your los. And i am glad they do.
In XTA i dont mind that those superweapons are easy to spot. Vulcan/buzz/corearty are powerfull enough even if you can spot them. What about the luger? iirc, it doesnt show its projectiles. Should they act like the bb-shells too?

In one game I saw a cloaked barto when he tried to d-gun me but couldn't because of insufficient energy. But the sparks from the d-gun were visible and gave away his position. And this is with my radar jammed by a hill, but obviously the dgun-glow can traverse rock better than radio waves :)

Yeah, I intended this topic to be for all things that glow on the map; the artie came first to mind.

D gun spark is intended for Core Commander I believe, I recall Noruas asking Barto if he liked it.
