DF Succession #2 - Overkill's Seed

Post by Neddie »

This is the alternate Succession game, which began on a poor foot. Essentially, Overkill messed up the starting equipment and passed on an under performing fortress with basic Magma and only the starting dwarves.

I got the save from him. Having played only one other DF game in the last year and not being at all familiar with the last year or two of changes in DF, this was obviously not the best decision, though as you'll see I only made two mistakes...

Overkill had installed himself as bookie and leader, as well as trader. I immediately noticed the complete lack of trade goods, furnishings and living space for future dwarves.

To make a long story short, I saved the fortress. However, I don't know how to make those full sized images of each level, and I can only play at about 2 FPS.

I had to deal with eight caravans and two migrations, everything sold was produced during my tenure and I now have enough seeds to pursue surface planting if necessary. All but the Xelics left with a positive view of us, and for production, we should stick to crafts and instruments, since they're almost favored by all the caravans of note.

I made two mistakes - I allowed dwarves to retain hunting skills, which lead to the loss of numerous dwarves, and somehow magma broke through a solid wall when I set up a second magma forge area. Since I never worked with magma before... well...

The Losses...
Regret - Peasant - Stegosaurus.
Det - Fish Dissector - Stegosaurus.
Licho - Hunter - Stegosaurus, after rescuing Utukki.
CarRepairer - Trapper - Stegosaurus.
Utukki - Bowyer - Crippled by Stegosaurus, Utukki suffocated in bed. Notably, he produced an amazing crossbow artifact before death.
Saktoth - Miner - Smoke Inhalation following flesh ignition by Lava.
TheSleepless - Animal Dissector - Stegosaurus.
SirMaverick - Animal Dissector - Stegosaurus.
Argh - Stoneworker - Exsanguination following flesh ignition by Lava.

The Artifacts!

Sleksa has begun work on another but does not have the necessary materials... I have no idea what "Tree... life..." means and for some reason neither the gems I have nor the shells I had were up to snuff.

The Magma Breakthrough!!!

Alas, poor Saktoth, he didn't start the block, but for some reason the other dwarf left to drink some water, and he came down for it.

This angers me to no end.

The magma trickles into the lower dug areas as I pass this game on... to Lurker.

Well, we have plenty of wood, shells and gems, so he's just being a drama queen.

There are nine other levels of little interest.
