Password problem

Post by Ginzu »

Hi everyone,

I have a promlem for which I found no anwer on the FAq's.
I have always played Spring on the same computer. Therefore I didn't have to type my password in. Only one click was enough to log on the server. I tried to play on another computer, but I couldn't remember my PW. The FAQ page tells to:
If you forgot your password, go to start, press run (or press the windows key and R at the same time if you can't find run), open "regedit", then navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TASClient\Preferences"
Your password should be in the pane on the right.
The only problem is that the password is said to be:
Y6/AdiT4r9KvofBmzj00Dw==
which is impossible and doesn't work.

Is there any way to recover my password ?
I tried the same regedit thing on the first computer, but the same code apprears.

Thanks for your help,

Ginzu

Heh I suppose that FAQ entry is really old, where exactly did you find it?

Anyway, quickest way to fix it is to make a temporary account and message a lobby administrator with the notice you forgot password and request to change it.

Nah, the quick method once you have that is:
  • /testmd5 newpassword
  • Go to $local
  • CHANGEPASSWORD Y6/AdiT4r9KvofBmzj00Dw== newmd5

Y6/AdiT4r9KvofBmzj00Dw== is your actual password, btw.

Thanks lurker.

I did exactly what you told me:
/testmd5 newpassword
then
CHANGEPASSWORD newmd5

then the server told me my password had changed but didn't tell me what the password was. I thought it was one of the two weird codes I had:

BnXDKVqDBFFeHXuTpWtmzA==

Xp0RoUrRyN136Y75tT/Rug==

but it contains illegal characters so I can't log on.
For now I've lost my account :)

I asked you to run /testmd5 for a reason. It doesn't have any arcane side effects, it just gives you the md5 of something. You were then supposed to use this "new md5" in the changepassword command.

I put BnXDKVqDBFFeHXuTpWtmzA== into your account, but now you made your password public again and need a new one. :P

Off-topic, while you're not supposed to put an md5'd password into the password box, when tasclient says 'illegal characters' it's lying to you.

I'm trying desperately to understand the problem :P
Now I can't login on any computer, so that means I can't even try to change the password from my account.
If you have acces to my account, could you change the password and send it to me in a private message?

Means that if you put BnXDKVqDBFFeHXuTpWtmzA== in the registry you can log in, because the lobbies take the password you type and md5 it into your actual password.
...except that I typed the command wrong and it was still 'newmd5' :oops:

When you do /password oldpass newpass the lobby sends CHANGEPASSWORD ZVlq7Ojq1LFMeNUvK4jsNw== 5gU+uNNeAq5Avu6s7yA8Gg==

But I'll make a random pass and pm it to you.
