Crashes on Win and Linux

Post by StrangeMan »

Hiho spring community!

In the last time, i'm experiencing strange crashes of the game engine. The game suddenly closes and nothing else happens.
I have spring v.0.78.2.1 installed on a WinXP and Linux (OpenSuse 11.1) system. The game crashes on both systems.
Under Linux, it happens very often - the chance to play a complete game is very low. Even in debugmode nothing related is shown to see where the crash is caused. The window just closes and thats it.
Under Win the crashes don't happen that often (every 2-3 games) and there is a messagebox, 5-10secs after the crash, telling me there was a crash and that there's a logfile (which I attached). This Logfile should contain al necessary information on my system.

Thats everything I know - if you need more information please contact me. I don't know how to get more info on this...

infolog you provided indicates that this is a gfx driver crash. update your drivers (or rollback if you updated recently.)

Thanks for the reply!

I updated my NVidia-Drivers to 180.xx on Windows. That was the latest version i could find for my Geforce 6600 go GPU.
Linux already has version 180.44 installed. It is the latest version available on my system.

The problem is, that the crashes only happen with spring. Other apps have no crashes. On Linux I run a 3D desktop environment, which never crashed before. (i deactivate it for playing spring)

Is there a graphics option, i could turn off to avoid crashes?

thanks,

StrangeMan, looking your INFOLOG my guess of what is happening is that for some reason the problem occurs in the rendering of maps with water. Exactly because problem is intermittent, the causes appear to be a mix of:
- Maps with water, rivers, or simply the lakes which are formed with explosions;
- Any problem in rendering of reflective & Refractive water;
- The FPS manager widget of some mods, which automatically configures the graphics in accordance with the current performance of the PC (as I see in your INFOLOG the problem happened right after the FPS manager do this: [40513] Set water rendering mode to 3 ( reflective & Refractive));

So I suggest that you disable the FPS widget manager and manually configure its options graphics, graphic effects of the water main. Go testing. If you problem, try a lower setting. Try reflective & Refractive, reflective after, until basic.

If you doens't know how to do this configurations, let us know.

Good Luck! :wink:
