Forced player colors
While being able to choose precisely the color I want to be in the game is nice, it is often inconvenient in a large game to have two reds, two bright greens and three cyans, especially if two of the same color are on different teams.
Since the game allows a maximum of sixteen players, restrict the available colors down to sixteen, or at least have sixteen preset defaults.
I've already found sixteen colors that are all different enough to be easily distinguishable (as much as possible, anyway). They likely are not exactly optimal, but they are quite close to it. Here are the color codes in hex:
#006800
0074FF
2FFF00
3FFFFF
FF2000
5E00FF
FFFF00
FFFFFF
BA0085
939001
00BB7C
8D83CA
00007C
FF8D69
87FF78
6B0000

Re: Forced player colors
On a similar note, it'd be helpful to ban black in IW, because it makes our icons unreadable. Is this doable?

Someone ban this racist.Warlord Zsinj wrote:it'd be helpful to ban black
Re: Forced player colors
Not bad, but do you think you can find 32, or even 64 easily distinguishable colors?

There's only one solution! We steal Pokemons shiny system!
Re: Forced player colors
blinking colors? (possible already!)
Re: Forced player colors
Or we could just invent some new colours....

Re: Forced player colors
Ban white.
If ur color is white, u can never tell wich units you've just selected.
And ban black too.
Highly annoying to never see ur enemy on moonmaps. (Before u laugh at this, play someone whos black on a moonmap and keeps raiders hidden on the black spots.)
Its only a problem with black, imho... green on greenish maps is still visible. Same for blue on sea.

I use off-white off-black, wut nao.
I think that white is fine, true black isn't because it fucks with team color

Re: Forced player colors
We shall rewire our brains, install ocular implants to detect a little more into the uv and infra ranges, and we should have enough color variations for all 16 teams, plus the selected-units color (white or whatever you want). Oh wait they are increasing team limit aren't they?
Re: Forced player colors
selection of white units if you have an issue with it, don't pick white, I have no issues, I can use the unit select widget.

The problem people have is if anyone in the game picks white, you can't tell which units are selected.smoth wrote:selection of white units if you have an issue with it, don't pick white, I have no issues, I can use the unit select widget.

I don't understand, we can see what units someone else has selected?

Re: Forced player colors
I didn't notice that he was not very descriptive. On the minimap, your selected units are white, and unfortunately look identical to your white teammate or enemy's units. For people who like to look at the minimap a lot, this can be very confusing.Raptor wrote:Ban white.

Re: Forced player colors
OH I get you.
rather than ban white it would be neat if we had the enemies and allies setting that wcIII has. Where people can set it to show allies a blue enemies as red and the player as green on the minimap.
Problem solved.

Hey man, I don't fuck with the mini map in fps I can assign orders anywhere on the map.
If that is there then why is he bitching.

Re: Forced player colors
I don't agree with "banning" a color, but I do prefer seeing player colors than using simple miminamp colors. I use it in giant 16 player games when there's really no choice. Better to have my own selected units blink or something, keeping their original color.smoth wrote:Hey man, I don't fuck with the mini map in fps I can assign orders anywhere on the map.

It's all moot because anyone can use the colors startscript. I don't use it though.
