Re: Shadow People
No.
A good friend of mine from high school was being stalked by a demon for a while. She would have very bad dreams that she wouldn't quite remember... and wake up with physical effects. For example, she had a dream that involved fire, and woke up with a sunburn on her face and her eyes hurting - she went to the eye doctor, who diagnosed a moderate burn to her retinas (!). Another time she dreamed of being stepped on, and woke up to find a footprint on her stomach. Yet another time she woke up with scratches all over her body...
Creepy as fuck. True story too. Said friend is one of the sanest people I know.

Well that definitely interesting and its a shame mainstream society would guess insanity before the unusual, has she ever seen the demon though. I have never heard of that type of situation though where dreaming of nightmares lead to real damages.

The Christian urban mythology mill is absolutely engorged with that kind of thing, and you definitely find tonnes of similar stuff in other religions as well.Noruas wrote:Well that definitely interesting and its a shame mainstream society would guess insanity before the unusual, has she ever seen the demon though. The thing is, those kind of stories are almost always tinted with whoever's religion's rose colored glasses, and a good helping of "a friend of a friend" style exaggeration.
I used to see shadows that did crazy stuff as a kid. They'd run around my ceiling and stuff... but I never associated them with danger or death, although a few times I was afraid of them (especially when my parents told me they might be demons)
In terms of scientifically viable things that have been attributed to the supernatural before: I have experienced sleep paralysis

This is what we call paranoia
Re: Shadow People
Google "sleep paralysis". That, to me, explains 90% of people who think they're "haunted".
/used to get bouts of sleep paralysis when I was a kid.
//yes, it's pretty damned scary.

Sleep paralysis doesn't usually induce burns, scratches, or blunt trauma...Pxtl wrote:Google "sleep paralysis". That, to me, explains 90% of people who think they're "haunted".

Re: Shadow People
I had all of these voices in my head as a kid that I discussed things with and cultivated into having distinct personalities. Eventually they started telling me to do bad things so I asked God to make them shut up and they did.
No one ever seems to believe me when I tell them I'm insane... my theory is that I'm too smart so my insanity appears as Eccentricity to the general public.
Meanwhile I have never personally witnessed identified demonic oppression and I believe that many legitimate illnesses are treated as such by the superstitious. However the fact I've never seen it does not mean it isn't a real possibility that it exists.

There are illnesses such as heriditary diseases or other diseases, some of which we may not know a whole lot about, that can have similar effects and be psychosomatically induced.Felix the Cat wrote:Sleep paralysis doesn't usually induce burns, scratches, or blunt trauma...Pxtl wrote:Google "sleep paralysis". I really think that people should try not to be so excitable and exaggerate when such phenomenon occurs and there are plenty of examples of unexplained phenomenon out there that are surrounded by all kinds of superstitions and religous beliefs that may not give you a good understanding of what to do about it. If the phenomenon is partially caused by stress it'll only make the symptoms worse and that may be what's triggering it in the first place.
I used be told that I looked like a vampire because my skin was pale, light sensitive (due to medication), have had sleep paralysis, used to sleep walk, and was a little anemic. Supersticious people can be fun joke around with, but rather irritating when it comes to dealing with genuinely out of the ordinary situations which may have a viable explaination that you can work with as opposed to what their superstions lead them to believe.

Devils and stuff do not exist, and if they do, no worries. Peet will ban them
