both CA and 1944 freeze at "Finalizing" when loading

ok so as the title says i've installed the spring engine and i was looking at 1944 and it looked great so i figured i'd try it so i did... downloaded the mod as well as the All Roads Lead to Rome map and i tried to play just single player. Now everything loaded fine in the splash until it got to "Finalizing" then it sat.. and i let it sit for ten minutes then it crashed :( so i've tried CA and other maps and they all have the same outcome... i'm not positive if my computer meets the requirements but i thought i was fine so i figured i'd post...

Comp specs:
CPU: Intel Pentium Dual E2140 @1.6Ghz
Graphics Card: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express Integrated Graphics Controller

i really don't know what else to post haha so if you need anything please ask and let me know how to find it... i'm on linux 8.10 as well if that's any help... thanks

post your infolog.txt (you could get that by typing "cat ~/.spring/infolog.txt" into a terminal :wink: )

sorry it's so long haha but i wanted to make sure i posted the whole thing... but what does this line mean? "blur api: your hardware is missing the necessary RenderToTexture feature" possibly the problem?

blurAPI is a helper widget that blurs your screen, nothing fatal.
what graphics driver are you using? do other mods work correctly?

Just go to system -> administration -> restricted drivers
i think it was something like that

EDIT: i think pressing alt+f2 and typing "jockeyz' brings up the same app.

and do other mods work correctly?

ok i tried the CA mod and the MA mod as well as the already explained 1944 mod and they all crashed at the same spot as well... and in that window is says that there are no proprietary drivers being used by the system so idk

without further evidence i'd agree with imbazcek. I can't run Spring on the latest open-source ATI drivers that come with Xorg and the kernel. Chances are you can't either. For gaming the open-source drivers aren't really there yet - but then the proprietry ones were pretty buggy too.

so how can i fix my "lack" of drivers? is the best solution to just get a new graphics card? i'm not even sure that's what the problem is haha
