Hi,
i followed the instructions:
http://spring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Ubuntu_install
to install spring with the ubuntu repro (ubuntu 8.10), even got the public key to sign it.
However after starting the spring lobby client i get the message
"Couldn't get your spring versions from any unitsync library. Online play is currently disabled."
I cannot use the download function from the lobby client (no connection).
Worse, i cannot use the single-player function. Also, if i download maps per hand or per ubuntu-synaptic, the single-player function of the lobby client does not let me select those maps, he does not find them.
Is the ubuntu install broken ?
not even single player with unbuntu (8.10) install ?

Try selection the "Options" tab, and under that, the "Spring" tab. Click on the "Auto Configure" button, and don't forget to hit "Apply".
If that doesn't work, there are often SpringLobby developers available at the #springlobby channel of irc.freenode.net who can help you.

Dont listen to crappy spliffz.
I run Spring on Ubuntu Hardy and on a Ubuntu Intrepid machine and it runs fine.
So, you added this line to your sources list?
But maybe it was an issue with the newly replaced lobby server? Maybe it now runs fine?
To help people, run the lobby through typing "springlobby" in a terminal and look for error messages and post them here, please!

And which packets did you install? Maybe the version of Springlobby is broken, then wait for a few days until an update knocks at the doors of your update manager.deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/spring/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main

Read what "insaneinside" said, that will usually fix the problem.
Unless you installed the lobby only and not spring engine itself.

got it to work with thanks to the site http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Spiele/Sprin ... ght=spring
and because i reduced the screen resolution inside the springlobby - tools - springsettings menu.
Thanks for all the help.
