Pro Porcing Paradise. no wonder it's popular :P OTOH if you can't build AA on the mountains, airdrops will be fun.

Nice. Gotta love a map that's really about balanced gameplay, that looks that good.

Looks better than most porc maps, since friendly bases are slightly isolated from each other, so when a teammate gets blown to bits then you might be able to defend from the enemies rushing from his base.

Still, it's really flat. I mean, the ridges are high, but the rest of the terrain seems flat.

if the middle mountain is crossable by kbots it might be as cool as icyrun.

You mean you think its possible to defend versus an enemy that managed to enter your allies base and now has the entire map?
The porclines are gonna be in the middle.

There is a good number of symmetrical or nearly symmetrical maps....

Yeah, but most of them look terrible.

If you have maps of that kind that you'd suggest I look at, lemme know, I may release a version that can be used with P.U.R.E. (it requires a very specific maptype).

This image, such a nice map, a shame...the hard map edge really needs fixing.

bringing it up again in feature requests

Yeah, so it doesnt look so "fake"...i dont know how to describe it, but i'd make the map look like its part of an outside environment
smoth wrote:Ok, we can do a 20X20 map.. lets say that we want to take 2 on all sides and make that no mans land, a border as it were. Making our 20X20 a 16X16 with a 2X edge on all sides that cannot be built on units will not be able to go there and for all intents and purposes would be the map border:

SO the playable area would be the center with the little outside edge being unusable.

One of my favorite level design tips was to always give the player an edge with stuff that looks neat and let them want to go there but don't give them it all.

Now a full 2x strip is a bit much but it is just an example. It would be a neat feature to be able to set the play area.

So it will be a small map with the load and size of a large map?
Surely there is a better way..

OK,but it needs to fade in detail somehow..like textures getting simpler and more compressed and geometry rendered in lower detail..
And this should be generated by the engine, not the map actually being bigger,so as to keep the map sizes(harddrive size)as small as possible..
No?

that is called lod an mip yan, spring already does that.

and no the engine generating it would be BAD.

extrapolating some geometry wouldn't be too hard, texture is the biggest problem.

The reason I say it will not work is that automatic stuff like that is likely to go against what the mapper wants. As Imbaczek says also the texture for that area is problematic. Which is why I suggested allowing us to just specific the actual play area, that way we could just get the geometry done ourselves and move on.

this will likely never happen. When I posted that suggestion it pretty much was shot down. I don't even care to remember why.

Well for the mapper not wanting it you can make it optional.
If the texture cant be somehow rendered in than i guess my idea fails.

Yan, nevermind. There is no point. Imbaczek, if you ever need someone to demonstrate the sort of map I was suggesting that would use a map edge, tell me and I will make it.
