Radeon HD4670 Trouble

Post by NOiZE »

Hi,

So i put a Radeon HD4670 into my system.

But now spring crashes (my entire system hangs, with no error message and nothin in infolog.txt after 5 seconds after the game starts.

I reduced all settings to the minimum, and it still crashes.

Then i tried a SVN (7218 version of the game) and it @ least works on default settings.

Any hints how i can get the current version working?

PS:

Catalyst 8.12

Run spring as an admin to at least get an infolog.

Tried that, now the funny thing is, when i run spring.exe as an admin, it doesn't crash. But when i run it using my regular windows account it does hang my system (which is an adminstrator account as well btw).

PS this is all on windows XP Sp3

Well it's not a plain Catalyst problem as I've had no problems with all the latest versions. The only thing that comes to my mind right now are some water settings and I think the Pixelbuffer Objects which can cause problems. Putting the water level down to at least reflective and deactivating Pixelbuffer Objects does the trick for those two - dunno if you already did that...

Apart from that my guess is that something is wrong with your system. If you switched from an NVIDIA card I'd recommend uninstalling all of your graphics drivers and run some tools like Driver Cleaner to get rid of driver junk Windows didn't delete...

o_O why?

odd that you would be able to run it as Administrator but not as an administrator account :/ perhaps check that your account really *IS* an administrator acct.

It really is an administrator account.

I did switch to ati because of the better preformance per buck. As Spring is not the only game i play :/

I figured the preformance would be less good for opengl games, but good enough, but now it just hangs the complete system :[

My HD4850 runs Spring perfectly, all bells and whistles and fast, under Linux even. I suspect you have some configuration issues.

Did you reinstall Windows already? It just seems to be a Windows related problem and not something directly involving the 4670 or its drivers...

Maybe just try to un- and reinstall Spring first...

I fixed it!!!

I deleted some spring related files which were hidden in:

c:\documents and settings\
