Let's try this again, Spring WD, coming...some day.
I think I am starting WD almost completely from scratch.
I finally can manage my time better now so hopefully I will start full fledged production in Jan 09.

I need...alot...
modeling software, texture editor (GIMP) etc...
And since i'm working with 2006 era stuff I need to update the graphics again...very daunting being out of development for a year...plus...
I noticed some ballistic weapons fire from the wrong origins and some weapons (machineguns, rifles) don't work and some do...
I don't know where to start...ack...

make a buildtree!
Re: Let's try this again, Spring WD, coming...some day.
Modeling software= Wings3D
Texture editor= GIMP, Paint.NET
etc= et cetera
Why don't you work with Nemo and the S44 team? Since WD and S44 are pretty much the same thing (based on the real world). Why don't you start on getting the idea, the required software, and make the units?
In case this is needed, the current bad side of WD is:
Red Alert Soviet voice-acks (aknowledgged, yessssir? acffirmative)
Weird construction sequence
Cannot run on current Spring
Scale (as if in size)
Challenger 2, Leopard 2 spam
Crappy graphics (like blood pieces)
Lousy buildpics (I could help you on this one)
Where is Maestro btw?

A... Ar... Are you INSANE? They happen to have the same setting (Earth in the 20th century) THATS ALL. not a lot of whats there is reusable, most of what was used during ww2 was obsoleted before 1960 ffs.panzeriv2 wrote:WD and S44 are pretty much the same thing (based on the real world).
if we follow that line of reasoning we should combine all the *A mods into one. since they are all 'pretty much the same thing' (based on TA).

Re: Let's try this again, Spring WD, coming...some day.
I think he meant mostly that they use humans, projectile weaponry, suppression, things like that, which are present in s44. I don't think he meant to imply that WD would simply reuse all of s44's art, because obviously that doesn't work. But many things, such as human models, movement scripting, resource model (?) etc etc are indeed relevant. Whether the s44 guys want to share their stuff freely is another thing...

Re: Let's try this again, Spring WD, coming...some day.
its all CC afaik. pending it being released.
as we both know WZ, coding weapons is probably the easiest part of the work (in regards to actually writing the tdfs) you could just as easily turn SW:IW into an early 21st century game by tweaking the hell out of the weapons.
as i said in the other thread, get WD working in Spring, get the balance sorted, rationalise the build lists (planes especially) then get rollin with the hawt and sexy models

Re: Let's try this again, Spring WD, coming...some day.
Takes a while to get contemporary-style bullets working with any decency (functionally as well as visually) in Spring. S44 have worked on it for ages, and while their method isn't necessarily perfect, they've certainly come a long way.
But yeah, one thing I remember from TA WD was the sheer amount of random stuff there was in it. I think start with a build tree, think about how you want your resource system to work, and aim for a small-scale release with low-tech stuff rather then expecting to release the whole thing in one go.

Easiest way to rationalise the buildtrees is to make each coutry it's own side.
Re: Let's try this again, Spring WD, coming...some day.
While the actual models from 1944 couldn't be used, a lot of the other content could. The trick would be differentiating from 1944 if you-reused the resource model and whatnot.
Re: Let's try this again, Spring WD, coming...some day.
Well, I think even some of the models could be reused. Soviet flag at least hasn't changed much since WW2 :). 122mm M-30 howitzer was used well into the 1970s (maybe even in 1980s as well), and probably some other equipment as well.
Re: Let's try this again, Spring WD, coming...some day.
Most useful thing would probably be the infantry scripts, which I'm trying to make as friendly for re-use as I can. The problem, of course, is that they're not done yet. When they are though, like PL said - all up for grabs.

would like to help, since im really burnt out on battletech. i think i helped out a little back in 02 with ota WD, if you remember me.
also is it going to consist of today's military? or maybe 90's (or earlier decade) before the break up of the USSR?

Re: Let's try this again, Spring WD, coming...some day.
The main goal of WD is to create a battlefield we would see today or in the near future.
My new model for aircraft will be the fact it's all gonna be VTOLs for now until I can steal the sexy CTOL LAU script from S44.
I remember you Bob...
