Notocrypta v1.0 [1v1 map]

Post by Aqo »

[Edit]
Here is the latest edition of the map: Download

Original Post:

Size: 12x12
This is a 1v1 map which has very close start locations and yet breaks out into lots of different choke points which allow for longer games. So basically you get to be face to face with your opponent from the very beginning while still having where to expand and various paths to harass him from.

So um, how is this for a first map? ;o

Looks pretty good, layout also looks good, but I'd like a shot of the metalmap and a shot of one of those hills (so you can still see the ground, so we can take a look at the switch from ground to hill)

I like the concept... Actually i was going to try this for my next map (meaning close start positions) but maybe just little further so that, as said before, it won't be possible to guardian abuse... Although building guardian in 1v1 would mean lacking the battle in somewhere else so that could be just a choice, not the instant win... ?

yes... but the point is, will it be constructor hlt (morph) rush for that hill dividing the start positions. If so, then it is fail imo :/

I'm just reasoning how the concept will work...

Could you make the mountains higher? Or would high traj still break it?

Still, don't forget that there are mods that don't have guardians ;) ;)

It takes a little time to get guardian. By the time someone gets it the other player could already have taken map control over the further back areas where he won't be bothered by the Guardian's attack range.
Nothing stops you from building in the back to begin with, plan ahead!

That aside, the close range allows you to use fast light units to attack the enemy early on. If the other player would start build a guardian too early he'll be low on resources and you'll be able to run him over with fast light tanks, so it'll take quite some time until someone gets a Guardian because they can't risk getting hit by fast mobile raids.

Here's a metal map as someone requested it, along with red circles that indicate Guardian range:

Make V2.
reduce mexes and make the starting points and the startinh point mexes be a bit further from the barrier.

Started working on v.2, remapped some of the chokes, reduced the per-player metal count to 22 (from 34), added a water choke and a thin kbot choke. The way this is right now, it's impossible to hit metal extractors on one side with a guardian from the other side, they're too far out.

Would you mind making a 24x24 version for large games as well?

I'd love to be able to make bigger maps but my PC simply cannot handle the BMP sizes that texture.bmp requires. It can barely go through creating a 6144x6144 one, creating one four times as big would fry my CPU.

you can use jpg files for the main texture, instead
of bmp files.
