When i update spring to the newest version, will it automatically write over the previous files?

yes, make sure that the lobby and downloader (use cntrl alt del) are disabled

it's still safer to install into a new directory and simply copy maps and mods from the old one. DO NOT copy whole LuaUI, only widgets.
