Perhaps cellphones/PDAs 10 years from now..I somehow doubt a current one has the processing power

You could probably make an all new game for the PSP that used the Spring Model format or something... Just play Emulators and PSP Revolution like everyone else dude.

Eee PC, OQO, all those new mini-notebooks coming out could *possibly* play it, and they would be quite portable too.

Spring runs like a dog on any machine under 2ghz. No piece of consumer hardware other than a laptop/desktop gets anywhere near that.

You might be able to run a low-unit-count mod like War Evo on a lighter machine, but any of the standard RTS-style games for Spring would be right out.

DOn't forget the amount of processor grunt that gets used up when you get some longer line-of-sight.

I think the point being missed here is the GUI, what with no mouse cursor to speak of...

We'd need a better means of displaying the GUI at such small screen sizes, as well as a solution for there being no right click or middle click or scroll wheel.

ipod/iphone still doesn't have the processing power you'd need for Spring. I wonder how well it would run Starcraft or TA, the originals, though?

It wouldn't. 256 x 192 DS' screen is fail.

instead of using psp you can use eeePC, it is a bit larger than psp, but no modification needed to run spring.
On psp, nintendo ds is impossible, because there isn't enough memory
and psp if i remember correctly cannot connect to internet,

Can Spring compile on non-x86 devices? NVidia's Tegra would be quite feasible (maybe the 2nd generation, since the current/upcoming one might be too slow) as it could be used on devices running Linux.

Also, though it's true the DS's resolution is quite low, it does meet TA's original minimum requirements. ;) perhaps a GP2X would work out? (320x240, touchscreen as well)

Man, if Spring or any TA-like RTS ever came out on a portable system, I'd seriously be screwed.

also if psp can connect to the internet there will be problems:
1. The psp architecture is very very closed
2. Is very hard getting accelerated 3d working
3. Is difficult to control units without having a touchscreen or mouse
only if it will be hacked to run linux maybe that spring will be ported

A good platform would be the Playstation 3 with a 42 inch LCD.
The opensource nvidia drivers will be able to use ps3 rsx and playstation 3 already runs linux.
Playstation 3 has ethernet controller and a lot of ram and a Cell processor(very good for spring simulation)

Something like ipod touch may be good but ipod touch hasn't 3d acceleration(i think) :(
