Email notification of major releases

Whenever Glest or warzone 2100 have major news they send out emails to the users on their forums, mainly from major releases. Why don't we do the same?

Aren't we required to code a checkbox somewhere then so users can opt out without having their forum account disabled/erased?

IIRC phpbb already has such a checkbox.

Yeah, go for it. People needed to use a somewhat-real email addie to register, this is a totally legitimate use of that tool, imo.
