How many people really work on TA Spring ?

Post by lastnico »

Hello everybody !

I would like to know how many people (contributors and core developers) works on TA::Spring, and with how distribution.

How many people work for :
- Core development
- Network handling
- AI
- Arts (textures for examples)
- Units
- Maps
- Linux Port
- ...

When I mean "how many people work", I mean how many REAL people work, and not "how many people would like to work" (even this summer, or whatever are not included)

I am a of course a Total Annihilation fan, and I would like to know with this topic if TA::Spring will have a final official release or not (I mean an entire game, with free units, maps, AI, textures...), or will be give up a day because there were to many idea-guys, and no code monkeys ;-)

I read many threads in the MessageBoard, but I could not see any commits to the SourceForge project (the SF link is missing on TASpring web site), so I would like to know if TA Springs is a really active project.

As a external user of TA Spring, I can't see what is the current development of this project, so it would be great if some stats could be present at the website, to help centralizing textures, units, and TODO jobs of the entire replacement of the original TA contents. Of course, these informations will be also interested for Core Development, and each developers (if you are many) could give us a percentage of job done for each part of TA (network, AI, core development, GUI support...)

Thanks for this wonderful project.

Of course, for the moment, I answer "Only answer this topic". (and I will not say that I hope I will help you a day, because I think to many people did that and then disappear, it's not very nice)

Later on I might get on board of PR or project management. We kind of need it.

I mainly provide suggestions for TA:Spring, I focus on TA:WD development and conversion to Spring.

I've been kinda pissed that TA:WD never gets much attention on here, it's always SWTA this, SWTA that...

I'd love to give y'all a hand, unfortunately I really have zero good skills... I'm graphically inept so no modelling/animating/skinning, probably no mapping either... I used to do some programming, but I don't know C++ well enough to really do anything... but hey, if you want me to do something, just let me know!

<-- tools :-)

Hey man, I'll try WD when it's finalized. Same is true with SWTA, haven't tried that yet. Get your sounds, textures, weapons, and units all squared away and I'm all over it.

Currently my unit collection I'm using has 601 units in it. It's a conglomeration of so much it's not really any one pack.

So I call it my MonkeyCollection :D

I like posting bug reports. And QA, while much maligned, is real work. You forgot to include that in your poll.

Thanks for the support guys :)

I'm still not satisfied with WD, and i'm kinda creatively drained on the moment, i've been working on new soldier models, but i'm not too pleased with it yet...

Randomly popping in w Ideas for what the engine needs, and mod ideas, and so on. Keeping track of whatever the hell alantai has come up with recently. And soon, poking holes in the code and messing up a perfectly good copy of spring.

I love the idea of WD! I hate Star Wars as of.... uhhhh.... Episode I. Then Episode II was like lemon juice, on papercuts. IN MY EYE'S!

That is to say, lemon juce poured into paper cuts that are on my eyes, just to be clear.

So while SWTA would be cool, WD would be totaly awsom. Make sure to have Tesla Coils though!

and to quote H.R Geger "MORE BONES! MORE BONES!!!"

also i give out every single INSANE idea i had ever though up. So i voted as a Idea Giver. My latest idea would be GIGANTO WARZ, where every unit is HUGE! Its the opposit of mini-spring. Massive titans would blast apart the world in a battle of extreams! Mountans will be leveled by their energy guns, while they march across ociens with their massive torsos sticking out over even the deepest ociean!

Nukes would be hand guns, and useing micro blackholes to sling shot miniture pice's of netriounium into the enemy would be like unto nukes. Gravity guns and really really big hammers would be the name of the game here! Resourses would be inconsiquencian, seeing as how you have ONE unit realy...

just for the records, the core developers probably ignore your coded, I think there are about 4 of them that acctually make and work on them... and Zombie... despite the lemon juice on paper-custs on your eyes-ness of ep1+2, they did have some really cool things that would make great units (and do already in SWTA... if I bothered to get it to work)

Crap diolog is part of starwars... Anyway, what actully makes anyof them good is Georges amazing ability to tell a story. He may not be the best director, or script writer, and maybe he should have deligated those tasks (like for the earlyer films...) but he can tell a realy good story.
Look at indian Jones... Super story telling and super script and super directing... If only george had had spelberg direct ep 1 and 2 im sure they have been the bee knees.
