Ok i connect up to the 'battleroom', check out the help menu to see what the ranks and symbols mean then go look for a game to join. Unfortunately I have no luck finding one that is using a mod i have, a map i have, the version i have, has less than 10 people in it so it doesnt blow my CPU out of the water, etc etc. So i decide to host my own game. I see lots of other newbie ranked players so i figure why not set the rank limit to newbie. Wrong, option not available. I try the next one up then and i set the rank limit to beginner. Wrong again, gives a brief message and fails to limit the rank of players joining. What am i doing wrong?
Next question. I set the player limit to 2. All of a sudden i get 4 people joining. All of them with silver or gold stars and trophies beside their name. What's the point of the player limit if it doesnt actually limit them? And why when i kick somone out of the room and later ban them from the room, do they keep trying to come back in 100 times over?
Rank limit and player limit

Re: Rank limit and player limit
Rank limit works, it just doesn't work the way you want it to, for example if you set rank limit to 2, players with rank 2 and above can join, not players with rank 2 and below. This has been frequently discussed and has never been done something with.
As for the player limit, it too, works, any player who doesn't have a side logo left to his name is a spectator.
As for people who are banned spamming the game with join/leave messages, its a fault of the protocol (which doesn't actually have a proper ban function), so short of contacting a moderator to get the spammers banned from the server for a while, you have no way of dealing with it. I think this will be fixed later, but I can't recall where I read that.

Who was joinspamming?
Re: Rank limit and player limit
It shouldn't be called rank limit, it should be called 'minimum rank'
Re: Rank limit and player limit
Ah i get it. Rank limit is to keep newbs out of veteran games, not to keep veterans out of newb games. Now i see why everyone was piling in to my game, they just wanted to have a good old newb bash
About the people that keep trying to rejoin 100 times after i ask them to leave, kick them, then ban them. It's not that it bothers me, i just dont understand what the big deal is. If there's 4 people all doing that, why dont they host a game and play together? Is it the irresistable lure of my default mod, default map, default settings and newb status? I just want to tool around in the game with some other newb that is just learning (or relearning) the game, not get crushed in 5 minutes flat by some chump that has his entire build order memorized.
Anyhow, follow up question. The ranks are assigned by the amount of time spent in a game. If you quit the battleroom irc client during the game, does that stop you from accumulating game time? What about if you play against a bot? Just wondering.

Re: Rank limit and player limit
It's not an IRC client. Time is counted as long as your lobby client is running and there's two players or more in the game, iirc.
