Tally ho!
I have ADSL and its worked fine until recently, i think that my connection speed was updraged a few weeks ago without being told, as beforehand the DSL speed on my routers set up screen would never go over 1800kbps or so, whereas now it tends to hover around 2200 to 2500 no matter how much i reset it (I live in a field a long way from the exchange, hence the low speeds). Im pretty sure my line cant handle the speed, as i constantly lag in spring and other games since it got faster, having to reset my router alot to get the lowest possible connection speed, altohugh webdownlaods / bittorrent etc works faster with no ill effects now.
Basicly, is there a way to manualy lower the limit on my line through software or somthing, or am i going to have to ring up my ISP, get put on hold for hours and pretend i'm able to understand what some lady in india says.
Ofc im probably wrong, i just remember reading about how a connection can become unstable if its rated at a higher speed than it can actually cope with.. or somthing like that, im just assuming thats the problem..
ADSL / Connection speed problem

Re: ADSL / Connection speed problem
Hm you should probably call your ISP directly. Sounds like line attenuation issues which affect the maximum transfer rate and latency as well IIRC...

Re: ADSL / Connection speed problem
Call your ISP and tell them to fix the problem. It's probably just an outdated modem. When ISPs screw stuff up the user doing tech support to fix their problem should always be the last resort. Right before you switch ISPs.
Re: ADSL / Connection speed problem
I was having similar (though much more severe- was getting <15KBps and ridiculous latencies) problems a few months ago. The tech my ISP sent said everything was fine, and wouldnt listen to my description of the problem...I eventually fixed it by running new telephone lines through half the house <_<

TBH it might alot of aggro if i do that rather than ringing them up...Peet wrote:I was having similar (though much more severe- was getting <15KBps and ridiculous latencies) problems a few months ago.
