Progress at zero point

Post by AF »

This is zero point. Nobody is producing, there is no production, there is no advancement. There are those who are itnerested, people who read and yet do not have the time ro are waiting but what for I do not know. There is a workign GroupAI interface yet nobody is using it, nobody save myself ahs even suggested uses for it save those already done by SJ.
As of now the only contributors to AI have been SJ and Jouninkomiko, the nearest to them there is is me and the project at darkstars which is entering a stage you have yet to even consider ehre int hsi forum.

State who you are what you know and what you can do here now for us all to see and then we shall discuss what is to be done in the next thread. We cant simply wait for the SY's to make us go we must push ourselves forward.

In the mean time I am sure some of you may be tempted to flame me for suggesting the above when I have material at darkstars and my own productivity there. Though I may ahve given links to certain items from darkstars I am worried that the only way the entirety of it will be seen by others is once TAI Lite has been coded and released which worries me. I would rather I had a reason now and not in a month or two. But I need evidence that you are willing to progress and not that you have stagnated and fallen into a community who hopes they will code an AI but never really gets round to i. For if that happens then your chances of an AI rest with me and the SY's, and I am not one to shoulder such responsibilities once considering the other responsibilities the SY's have. However I have commited myself and I will not backdown now.

So go ahead and say what you can do and what you are willing todo, even if you only have an interest and know stuff btu arent willing to do anything, post it here for us to see, it would be helpful in the long run.

You have 5 days to pursuade me of my fallacy and vote in the poll. I will take appropriate action afterwards save if a large enough response is made which forces me to act sooner.

As those who have access to Darkstars at thi moment in time should note, future references to TAI Lite and its progress are to remain closed untill pending the outcome of this forum or the completion of a release.

But take heed of min3mats request for now, aside from filling in a few things it would be interesting to see what opinions people have on the matter and a to wether it is a consistent or varied opinion.

Such a thing will probably just lead to a fork. The SY ppl will
either produce an interface, or tell us to... If there´s word
thats its an area nobody is working on and help is wanted,
go for it.

On a sidenote, im getting a bit impatient myself, so can we
have a status report or something? ETA? something?

I'm working with the GroupAI for now and have relegated the Gloal AI to a single agent. You dont need to wait for the SY's to finish the Global AI interface to start doing things, aftrrall if you keep waiting for them like this nothing will ever be done.

In the mean time It is possible tog et a skirmish AI running using the GroupAI however it might eb a bit lacking in thigns like diplomacy etc, and I'm sure that the SY's will finish the GlobalAI quicker if they see that we'll be needing it sooner. And to mention that, I'll be needing the GlobalAI finished within the next few weeks.

However I would not support an engine fork for the whole purpose of implementing the interface, and I have total trust in the SY's ability to deliver what is needed. Now Jouninkomiko has his internship at microsoft one of the other SY's will pick th interface up, most likely SJ being the one who wrote CGroupAi.

hey there,

if somone can spend an hour or two on msn with me giving a fairly detailed introduction into the TA workings i'll gladly donate hours of my time (I spend like 10 hours a day programming games). Currently i've almost finished my As Level exams so i'm gonna be completly free to do programming :)

I'm desperate to get into the Spring source but i just can't 'get in there' i really need somone to have a detailed convo with to help me do the following goals...

1) somehow get a compileable version of the source code in either Borland c++ 5 or Dev Bloodshed. (or possibly help me find a free version of the Microsoft Visual c++). so i can work on the code and test it.

2) a quick tour around the source so i know what / where everything is (i.e. the AI stuff, and other major sections)

If someone can help with either of these problems then can ya leave a post here and we can trade MSN (if you have it). I'm soooo wanting to get stuck into the code (it looks awesome) but i just can't start without a wokring compiler/source combination :(

Thanks in advance

Jonny C.

I don't know what AF will say, but I say we can use all the coders we can get.

I'm kindof in the same position as Jonny here, I don't have a working compiler for it. I don't have VC .NET '03 and I'm not going to pay 148 euro for it. Since the code is currently not compatible with GCC or VC6 I can't use it.
I would really like to make a global AI though, or help with other parts of the code. I also thought of adding another unit model type better suited for organic style models, or improving the COB script handler, in case that would make a good performance increase. I'm not saying I'll do all those things, but I would like to do one of them. This is only in case I don't get accepted in google's summer of code, and for obvious reasons ofcouse :)

What would happen if somone actually managed to get a verision of the source that worked with a free compiler like DEV Bloodshead? The whole project would go into overide don't ya think?? lol

Ther'de be mass problems with 30 programmers all writing code for it and nobody being able to keep up to date. It would be hysterically confusing but at the same time quite exiting.

Please can somone whith enough knowledge to debug C++ code proplerly download the DEV bloodshead c++ compiler (http://www.bloodshed.net/devcpp.html) and modify the MSVS.NET'03 code so it can succesfully compile in it :) Then all us average programmers can get to work :)

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! :)
