TAUniverse dieing

Post by Michilus_nimbus »

Seems like the last "big" OTA bastion is falling:
Following an announcement by Nexus, TAUniverse.com, FileUniverse.com, UnitUniverse.com, TA Zone, SupComUniverse.com, TADRS, and all of its hosted sites may be closing down, and with it, what is left of the Total Annihilation Community, much to the sadness of many members.

We would like you show your support for Nexus and TAUniverse.com, FileUniverse.com, UnitUniverse.com, and the TA Community in this thread, vote Yes. Thank you.

On behalf of TAU, we would all also like to apologise to Nexus for the recent immaturity exhibited by a minor group of people. They are not representive of TA Community, please do not let them get their way. We would also like to say thank you, for all of the time, effort, and resources you have provided for this great site, and the community that has been produced as a result.

After that, I think we'll be the last guardians of TA.
Pretty shocking, isn't it?

If the server costs are indeed 150$ like mentioned on TAUniverse... then I wonder if this whole thing can't just be solved by renting cheaper servers.

I'm guessing that FU doesn't use > 1 TB/mo now that spring doesn't use it anymore, and that TAU and the rest consumes even less, so why would it need servers of 150$/mo?

Oh joy, let's hire a couple dozen of their immoderate moderators, next we start up the religion forum.

was expecting it for a while...

TAU was my online home for the past seven years. i love that place; i've known people through TAU longer than almost anyone ive known IRL

but im not sad to see it die; i think its natural and that it needs to go in a way

we'll always have the backups for memorial purposes

i just the domain gets redirected to some other site =]

from website :
Universe to remain open - Nexus

Based partly on the public outcry and mostly on the people that have chosen to contribute towards the continued existence of TAU, UU, FU, SCU I have decided to keep the Universe open.

Please enjoy the sites.
