New version, 0.51b1

Post by Fnordia »

This is mostly a bugfix release, and fixes various crash problems and annoyances. There are no changes in the content included, we have decided to wait until the next major release for such things. The changelog can be found here for those interested.

If you already have installed the old version, you only need to download the small core files download and install it on top of your old installation, since no content has changed in this version.

You will need to update to the latest version to be able to connect to the multiplayer server.

A step backwards patch?

Post by EnlightenedOne »

Have any of you guys identified some unusual instability in the battleroom? i have failed to have more than one full game after this newest patch, it has also become apparent that some people who could not host and have not changed anything can now host.... maybe its just me but ive found although this patch has helped with some things it seems to disable me from getting through a game roughly 5 minutes in now it will throw me out very frequently :( sometimes it doesnt but i was wandering if i was the onlyone to notice some odd occurences after this latest patch, anyone else noticed these things?

The patch to end all patches

Post by EnlightenedOne »

ok this has no longer become a joke ive been doing some aproximation math after the patch 1/23 games has ended with me not crashing before hand 19/23 games would end with me not crashing and when i crashed then everyone would crash with me lol, i know its not been long since i last posted but this is virtually disabling me from playing with everyone i have tried reinstalling spring i have shut down every program in the back ground then when that failed i pressed ctrol-alt-delete on XP and layed shut down the random programs and hope the machine doesnt auto shut down, and after winning a game of shut down the programs i tried to play and it crashed, it doesnt matter if i sit as a spectator the game will still crash after 1-5 minutes of being in the engine. Help me patch builders of the game known as spring :P

The old client has bugs, and that is probably why there are problems. I doubt its a problem on your end.

If you can give more details on what exactly is happening when the bug occurs (and it doesn't have to do with the lobby), we can get those bugs hammered out quicker.

More instability

Post by munch »

I've certainly noticed more instability in the battle room itself, though I've never had a problem in game - either as a spectator (as I usually have other stuff to do) or as a player. Prior to this version, I successfully hosted a few games, despite having dialup, but I don't think I've managed to host a single game since the new release. I'm wondering if this is a server side issue though, and maybe not related to the new client release.

Just a thought

What happens to make it crash

Post by EnlightenedOne »

I have established that the game has become more stable and instead of just crashing when the map is loaded and i am a spectator will let me look around. The crashes seem not to be based on anything to do with maps or map size as i have found by using the map Bionica v2 which uses lots of differing textures. I have found that the game will not crash if i move my commander about the place but it will become less and less stable as i attempt to build, if i try to build a power plant and the plant does finish and attempt to open the game will crash, a metal extractor may extract and work when finished or make the game crash when under construction. There is no change with different modifications (eg if i have the 3D Objects and OTA it will have no effect) sadly this has completly disabled me from using my machine to play. I have attempted using an old version and updating it or downloading the full version new and testing it with no change :( the instability seems triggered by any object created that is not the commander. In a previous version i found that installing the patch over everytime before i had a round would allow the game to work stabily but now this trick does not work so if this problem could be linked to a log file that is saved somewhere or an effect from a previous game im not sure... the reason i mention this to you is because the very first game i played on the engine all the way through was the first one so if any information that use to not be kept when you isntall over it is now being kept that may cause some instability maybe. i have uninstalled the game hundreds of times to try and make it work but never deleted the registry prhaps something there? Anyways for now i intend to upgrade my graphics card, reformat my machine and use my brothers machine untill then :P

i hae the occasional lucky moment where the game will let me build alot of things and get into it for about 10 minutes then have a super crash and bring itself down and sometimes take windows with it but that is very rare i suppose there might be some inconsistant factor that varies depending on where osmething is built that makes it crash i guess but happy workings Spring people if my brothers machine doesnt run it then we can get rid of the concept of it being a fault on my end.
