Money as a prize
Is there a way to organize spring competitions with money as a prize?
It can work in the following way.
You start a 16 player tournament and each player gives 5 us dolars for entering it or any other currency.u get 80 if each one gives 5 dolalrs and than the first second and third places split the prize.
Is there a way of making an outomated system that will also be safe?is spring capable of keeping games unhackable?
Is this idea possible in any way?

Re: Money as a prize
In the official sense I don't want to do anything with money, but if it's privately organized I don't have anything against it. I think the difficult part is, that as soon as day and andy cut in 5 dollars, the hard part is finding 16 other players willing to give 5 dollars they know they will lose.

As long as the task of dealing with squabbles relating to tournaments with money prizes doesn't end up with me as a moderator, I'm fine with it.

1. Emmanuel already made a topic about this.
2. There are hax that won't desync the game. >_>

Re: Money as a prize
It's a good idea, once you get through the resistance with the mods here, keep in mind many reputable sites use this same method alot.
Lets take NeHe's OpenGL as an example. They've been running reward competitions for years, in a seasonal variety. I suppose if a bit of imagination was used, we might see some increased activity on this board.
ps. I didn't read your whole post, wtf would you automate such a system for, why dont we just let robots control this whole forum.

Re: Money as a prize
The problem here is that Spring isn't big enough to have a lot of people contending for #1. It's basically just Day and Randy. Maybe if you had a good-sized pot for third and fourth places people would consider it - Day/Randy (not necessarily in that order) take first/second, and two other people take third and fourth.

Re: Money as a prize
This is a really bad idea. Spring is certainly hackable, considering the fact that every participant's computer stores all the units and positions and commands of every other player. You only have to make some sort of trainer or modified executable to show or display this. Its also pretty easy since this project is open source. There are also many other things you can do, but there is no need to give people ideas in this regard. Also, there is definitely a fairness issue, and fraud/identity theft possibilities.
However, I would like to share with you a really wonderful idea. First of all, you spread the word about spring. Then, you host a lan competition where every brings in their box and plays together in a tournament, the way other game tournaments are done. There are moderators who will walk around that will literally throw you and your computer out onto the street if you decide to cheat. If there really must be money, you can not only securely transfer cash IN PERSON, but also get sponsors for the event. I would highly encourage this, as i am sure it would be very fun.

Re: Money as a prize
Change it into 1$ then it doesnt matter so much, and more you play more you get money.
So if you play 4 games in one hour, 8 hours a day, you get as much money as the people who goes into real jobs. (if you win every game).
Imagine, you could just play spring your whole life, without going into work.
But of course there is a TRICK! its only possible when you play speedball! Those games lasts exactly about 15mins.
So, think twice, is that really what you want to do the rest of your life?

However, we have a moderation team ready to, say, desync kneecaps all over the globe, if such is used.lurker wrote:2. There are hax that won't desync the game. >_>
Re: Money as a prize
God, if money is going to change hands, it should be going to the devs of this fantastic game, not to good players.
Seriously, if anyone deserves a reward...

Spring needs more pro players than painkiller for such thing to work. If somebody feels up to it, he could make a post on esreality.com and similar sites, but be prepared to be bashed for not being starcraft.
