Strafing Hovercraft
Alright, I was wondering how you all would go about creating a strafing hovercraft.
I've tried to make a gunship with a low cruisealt, but hoverattack=1; overrides that, and seems to have a set height for everything that uses hoverattack=1.
Also, when i remove hoverattack=1, it stays at the height defined in cruisealt, but it moves and drives like a hawk (barrel roles and whatnot >_>)
Of course, a far simpler way would be to make a hovercraft drive like a VTOL, but I don't really have any idea how to go about this (so far everything I've tried has resulted in "Inconsistant unit type" sorts of errors)
Any help is much appreciated.

Redfish, so not true, all the tank has to do is turn it's chassis, tanks can turn around 360° while keeping their turret in one spot, strafing is completely possible and even make it look fine.
well, can't attach a picture, imageshack is offline.
[edit] attached a picture to demonstrate how tanks could 'strafe'

Hehe, it just depends on how you see it. Imo this tank is driving forward but aiming sideways instead of the other way around :) So you're now saying that strafing is moving forward, as long as you turn your head to the left or right :DGrOuNd_ZeRo wrote:Redfish, so not true, all the tank has to do is turn it's chassis, tanks can turn around 360° while keeping their turret in one spot, strafing is completely possible and even make it look fine.

I think strafing means moving sideways while keeping your gaze forward. For a human that means making a step to the right and not forward. So according to this definition a tank can't do that :)

true. should be able to. but tanks can already move and move their turret strafing is the vehicle moving side to side
i.e. a unit facing north could move east and west without turning. tanks cannot strafe atm and they shouldn't be able to since they can't. this is about a strafing hovercraft though isn't it???

It would definitly be a neat feature on hovers.
As for tanks, it would be a useful feature, esspecially as a toggle, it would make the tank able to dodge some shots.
Reverse is definitly a must, I just don't know what animation it would use when going in reverse, it would be great if the units go in reverse just like in C&C Generals.
