The Plot of War

Post by rcdraco »

Current Team:

rcdraco - Mod Design, Europian Side, and basic mod building.
Overkill - Human Side, Effects, and LUA.
ianmac - Guardian Models.
Otherside - Guardian Models, Guardian Texturing.

The Plot of War is a mod that is based on a concept I've had for a long time. It incorporates 3 sides, the Europians, the Humans, and the Guardians.

Europians

The Europian was a project to send a robotic colonizer to Mars, upon landing, the craft was severely damaged, and lost connection to its host computer and began building new robots to carry on it's mission. Europian's, also known as the the robots built by Europian, are a team that rely on speed and unique units.

Humans

Humans are a nomadic race of beings that wander the cosmos to conquer territory and destroy all alien life, even there own planet's projects to get their ends. Humans rely on large, high armor tanks and strong defenses to win their battles.

Guardians

Guardians are the peace keepers of the Universe, they do whatever it takes to keep the universe safe, and keep their presence as ambiguous as possible. They rely on aircrafts, mobile bases, and cloaking technologies to protect the Universe even if it risks their detection.

There's only 2 units right now, read in the wiki about the planned gameplay.

Humans are Porc and Spam, Europians are Expland and Exterminate, and Guardians are steathly mobile base.

I'm using entirely custom scripts, to keep it as light as possible. I'm in charge of Europian models, and overall build, balance, test and tune. Overkill is supposedly making the models for the Human tanks.
Looks like a nice project, though as the previous post said, gameplay details would be nice.

Europa as in the moon of jupiter? Are they going to be aquatic/amphibious?

edit: sorry, didnt notice wiki link

Europians use just about anything, Humans use mostly tanks, and Guardians only use airplanes.

Like I said if you want to contribute, go ahead. I will not be accepting models for Europians.

Humans use Bulky tanks with "undersized" guns, I want a siege tank in there somewhere. As well as an MCP as a commander.

Guardians, basically sleek planes, and Disc UFO's.

Here's the Europian Ore Extractor:

Your wiki article explains nothing about the mod. It gives some fluff and descriptions of the sides, but doesnt explain the actual gameplay.

What is your economic setup?

What is your 'tech tree'? How will it behave and how will the branches interact?

What is your design philosophy, your objectives, general premise?

Will you be using vanilla spring, or spicing it up with Lua?

What makes your mod unique (In gameplay, not in flavour)?

You need to define these things early on and work towards your goals with unified purpose.

I explained the gameplay already.

Tech Trees vary. Humans have 4, Europians have 3, Guardians have 2.

The goal is that I didn't waste 10 years of my life designing a mod so Saktoth can shoot me down.

Economy is Economy made to reduce spam.

I will not use LUA unless needed, AKA Eucolon [Protoss Style Carrier].

Unique? Laziness of design, entirely based on 2d sketches of massive wars Uber Units and Insane Tactics. If I get it near that I'll be happy.

Siege Tank

Post by rcdraco »

Here's the Europian Siege Tank, a Tactical Assault Tank. It's relatively fast, but can't fire unless it is "deployed".

In game, it will be used mostly as a defensive weapon, and rarely a siege breaker. Ideally, it will be a mobile turret, AKA a Punisher. It is about as powerful as a heavy tech 2 tank, with a little more armor, and higher autorepair, but a longer delay time. Very similar to my tactic in Starcraft, this tank is ideal in tech 1 defense and expansion.

840 triangles, not too too bad in my opinion.

EDIT:

I remade it, now it's at 824 triangles, and a little nicer in my opinion.

those stabilsers need more work.simply put, they dont look big enough to make a difference to stability, especially given the low, wide stance of the tank hull anyway.

I am still working on the Guardian modles and I have about 1/4 to 1/3 of them done and I'm picking up speed.

i like what you are doing.
reminds me of the legotanks i used to build with a friend ;)
maybe the siegetank could have 2 stabilizerfeet on all sides, seeing how it is almost a driving square. (I like tanks that are more wide than long)

I redesigned the siege tank, again. I'll post pictures soon. It looks more like I think it should, much more similar to Europian Units, and has 3 feet, and about half the triangles.

EDIT: HERE IT IS!

Siege Tank has been implemented, factory works perfectly. Progressing more or less on schedule, expect the first release on Christmas.

getting work done

Post by rcdraco »

I've gotten a decent amount of work done. On a sorta side note, here's a useful Scriptor function I put together.

It's used for airdrops, used in the Frog Trooper II so far.

Here it is.

I want to make my work completely free, even to the point of not using standard headers that can't be made any other way, so I'm going to use a unit that's part of Starcraft, a game which I know the makers are sue-happy.

Post by rcdraco »

I don't know what the hell your problem is.

It's a mobile defense turret, it doesn't have a gun in mobile mode, and doesn't look remotely similar to the Starcraft one. Stop friggin' trolling, you of all people.
