I will get back on the level 4/5 lasers after I stabilize my machine. I do not want to lose any work. I have to make sure my mbo is safe before I restart work, lest I fry my compy and then am put back even further.

?

Copy Wings 3D and FH folder to a flash drive and I am set, it doesn't even take that long, but procures both my wings models, the textures I keep with them, all of the mod file and recently worked on stuff, and anything else special.

My working directories contain all exported .objs, psds and textures. Including but not limited to mod content and the 2000+ reference image directory I have for gundam. Then there is all the source files for towerdefense.

Not something one can quickly fire onto a thumbdrive and if I did it with each tweak it would brick my thumbdrive before I know it.

My latest work is fine as far as I know it is just the mbo that is all dicked up. I am able to boot into my windows copy on that hd on this machine. However, this machine is a 3-4 year old cheap-o dell. It is my backup machine that I use when I have to have a machine. Anyway, yeah as far as I can tell my MBO is fuxed.

The machine I am on right now is a dell dimension 2400... utter crap I bought right after my apartment burned down. Since then I had built my other rig and it is superior. However, I am pretty sure teh MBO died on me. I have no option but to start looking at motherboards again. So that is what I am now doing.

Get an external harddrive? My bro has one that has a usb cable with approximately 100 mb/s of transfer rate. The rate depends on the cpu, and his is a dual core 2.16 GHz I think, forgot the name of it, though.

nah some hardrive errors are just boned. There comes a point with some things that the recovery is too costly or the data is simply gone from over writes.

As I said my data is fine but I am completely unable to do any work right now. VERY VERY annoying.

external hardrives are not very good to tote around esp when you walk to campus every day about 1 mile.

Eh, my brother has this really cool bag thing that he can carry a ton of stuff in. His harddrive is long and skinny, and the base isn't very thick either, so he just slides it in a pouch and rolls the cord up and slides it in next to it, hardly takes up any space and weighs maybe 2 pounds.

Snipa, hardrives have tiny metal arms that can become bent from shock of impact. Not the best thing to tote around my backups in.

Ok, I am not a hardware guy, never have been but these two items seem pretty good.

AMD Opteron 175 Denmark

ASUS A8N-SLI Premium

Anyone know if they suck?

Well, the asus seems to die a lot. If you want something for >1 year, get something else.

Edit: Oh lol, I only clicked on the second one...

Snipa, the former is the processor and the latter is a motherboard :P

I'd recommend the core2duo e6420 and an EVGA Nforce 680I LT

Go for intel or take an AM2+ board (if there are any released yet). AM2+ will at least work with quad cores.

I'd have taken the EVGA mobo myself if I wasn't such a dumbass and bought AMD.

Also how much money are you willing to spend? I guess not so much.
