Was the thread in General Discussion about MMORTS gamers deleted by a mod/admin?

If so, why?

Epimendes is the reason why admin deletes your threads.

It wasn't deleted per say, it was moved to our private dump forum. It was a giant flame war and would have been harder to clean up than it was to remove from public view entirely.

No, the thread at the point I have a copy had been locked by lordmatt, Vimes having not replied.

Vimes wrote:I chose to remove the Spring thread as I didn't personally like the potential effects it would have on the community at large. Spring is an RTS like so many and can be covered adequately by themselves they indicated. For comparable RTS games check out a rather cool site http://www.rtscommunity.com . Very active and good coverage.

However - the thread may be reposted with edits including the screenies I took of the flaming in the now deleted post on the spring forum. I state this as I'm furious they allowed their community members to hijack a thread an flame a game for no reason then chose to immortalise it by locking not deleting.

With my Boundless Planet Vet hat on I WILL be overtly bigging up Boundless Planet - though we never had to do it at the expense of a fellow community. Indicates the flaws of their game imo.

But while I may be doing this site Im still a gamer and a human. If you flame me or mine I will respond. If you fail to find any humour in my flames then get a funnybone check and don't go there. Why attack someone and be outraged they respond swinging?

Enjoy all - its been fun and now back to MMORTS...
What have we done? :(

Vimes, I'm assuming you'll read this simply for the fact that most internet users pay attention to drama that encircles them. For what it's worth, we don't have anything against BP, MMORTS is just not the scope of Spring. By conventional RTS standards BP is pretty weak, I mean, only 20 units? Common, that's nothing! That being said, by MMORTS standards, obviously spring is pretty weak, no C/S model, non persistent servers, small maps. Really... from what I've seen both sides seem to be faulting each other on pretty stupid points. It's like arguing that motorcycles suck because they don't have towing capacity... it's not in the scope of their designs.

Simply put, BP isn't better than Spring, it doesn't do a huge amount of things that most of the users here care about alot, obviously for you however, the things you care about BP does better.

I locked the thread because flame wars are not allowed on these forums, and that's exactly what the thread had become. It was not one sided, you were not being attacked unprovoked, I want to be clear, you came off very arrogant and egotistical, weather intentional or not. Really, I wish BP all the best, and I wish your community all the best, I have no intent of starting/allowing/propagating a feud between two non competing non profit projects over a poorly run advertising campaign propagated by someone who really should probably do a little more research on effective and ethical advertising.

I'd personally hope most springers are above taking this any farther than it's already gone, the people who are here are very much individuals and are not leashed in, but I think most of them have enough maturity to let drama die when asked to. Seriously, hang around, promote your project, suggest MMO features for spring, do whatever, just FFS don't propagate flame wars. Read our rules. Don't flame bait, and report attackers rather than retaliating, it's not always easy but it's what we expect of every springer, no exceptions made.

Likewise , I've no issues with Spring - this is the first place I called on the path to getting http://www.mmortsgamers.com off the ground. I was taken aback by the site criticism, replied overly harsh and then apologised and moved on. I was however surprised by your communities lack of faith in the ability of the community member to counter my hasty observations and cope with a small row.

I enjoy a row but had already acknowledged this posters points when the others joined in. Now c'mon - they flamed over the lack of a description of BP and lack of information but didn't try the 'help' button with unit lists n breakdowns and how to play the game and what to expect, found on the front page. Kinda annoyed me as it was obvious they had no intention to debate unlike previous posters. If flame baiting is having an opinion and manner that a small portion object too then I suppose your right - but I had no intention to even mention Boundless Planet as evidenced in the thread. It was only mentioned in explanation of the open sourcing, I fail to see how I tried to lure players away? Unless you meant Michilus which is quiet funny as he was an original BP beta tester before spring was made iirc :) You nicked one of ours lol

Anyway - I posted your game on http://www.rtscommunity.com/forums/inde ... oard=111.0 . Hope this helps in some small way.

I think that was talking about the combination of the two threads somewhat.

One thread was about http://www.mmortsgamers.com and didnt mention BP till flamed and the other was a query by your community which as the most knowledgeable person here on BP's transition to open source, I answered. Then got flamed lol. Only pimping I did was Mich - as I remember paying with him 3 years or so ago. It was tongue in cheek as I cant force him can I? lol

Seriously - he is hardly a regular - so should be questioned? Inquisition time? lol

I know you think it was a set up but it wasn't - don't blame him for not replying given the surge past him to flame me lol.

Such a shame a good post was ruined...

And why would anyone combine two separate subject posts into one and flame them? And why was there discussions in your client chat about a flame war they were kicking off? hehe - funny old world. Cross flaming posts - gotta be a bad'un lol

Yeah I wasn't defending the flames.
This community has a tendency to do that...
