You need a paint program, like MS Paint or even Photoshop. Then, depending on your fetish, you could render a custom map with [ Terragen ], port an existing TA map by extracting it with [ HPI Viewer ] and exporting it as a picture through [ Annihilator 1.5 ] (alternatively with the [ 1.6 patch ]), but in that case you'd need a lot of custom [ tilesets ] to work with.

In any case, to compile the actual map, you will need the Spring [ map tools ], maybe even with the [ extended ] mapconv.exe version to make larger maps.

That's about it.

May I also add "for ported TA maps" that if people start using TAE to export the terrain they can have the features rendered as well,, important to strip everything except the metal patches before exporting the .pcx, then convert to .bmp, this removes the need to re add the metal patch graphics manually later on, and ensures they are all true to the ota original ie: metal patch sizes and output..
