Bigger map textures

Post by TARevenger »

can the next map editor/compiler have support for multiple texture files to support maps that are bigger than 64x64

lets push spring to the limit and bring on the 128x128, 256x256 maybe higher

And so people could fill my hard drive with a bunch of ugly crappily made 2GB each spring map. And so I wouldn't be able to play again until I bought many more RAM.

I think having map bigger than 32*32 without tiles would be a waste of ressources.
Does spring can handle tiles like OTA?

I think there's some kind of tile system already implemented.
I guess that's why some huge maps compile at an incredible speed, while some small ones take ages to compile.

Z is full of light an sunshine.. :)..

To be honest, I think a buch of people are going to make crap maps for a while.. then it'll die down. Like right now people ar making these sh$#@y maps based off of satelite pics but they don't make them very large. The only one I have liked to dat is the pacific one.

If you guys are going to use these huge height maps and textures at least consider that an arm commander is not as big as a state... it is really asinine.

Oh, and hats off to those of you that are doing your own custom stuff.

Thanks :)

I worked very hard to get Asia Pacific looking decent :D

Any suggestions for my Europe/Africa version. I haven't started yet, so feedback now would help the end result.

The obvious question is: Can our computers handle it within two years?
