I set ti on my parents PC as its on crappy itnegrated and some uni PCs revert to 800x600 although theyre usually at 1024xetc..

The 2 column on either side of the UF layout, if you took one of them and moved its contents somewhere else on 800x600 then that would help a lot.

you're not going to see a lot of 800x600. You'll see everything upwards, starting from 1024x768 in all configurations (widescreen, dual, triple, whatever) and, as portables become more and more popular, resolutions of 400x300, 320x200, etc. See iPhone and its clones.

What about the Wiiiiiiii?

You're not going to see desktop/laptop gamers with this resolution often.

There's a way to detect the screen resolution using DHTML, I think. Check dynamicdrive.

I voted yes, not because I ever use that res, but because I don't always browse maximized so i like pages that shrink gracefully.

Looks like ~1 out of 5 people still use it. I wouldn't use it as a desktop res, but I've been known to drop that low for some games on my laptop.
