it works with liquid metal, and the only liquid metal i know is, Mercury, which is really bad for our environment...

elements can't be bad for the environement silly :P (I know... I know... but as long as people don't throw the things out in the trash it should be mostly safe... I mean, millions of thermometers have mercury in them all around the world)

elements can be bad....

studies hav proved that high levels of heavy metal kills biota!!!

and mercury is a heavy metal....

It actually runs on galistan, which is an alloy of gallium, tin, and some other stuff. It is not as nasty as mercury, but I wouldn't call it "environmentally friendly".

owh and most thermometers are based on alcohol, or even better are digital..
