Map In Progress - New Zealand North Island
this map was aimed at the OTA but failed because the textures got screwed up in annihilator 1.6
but now in TASpring at a massive size of 19x32 it looks even better.
Created with elevation data of the North island and a basic texture map.
current max height is set a 250 which seems right for the size of map
Screenshots here.

the map has 1 problem which is the same in other maps i've created with custom textures which is showed in NZNI1.jpg
possible 10 player map and maybe expandable to 20 with the whole of New zealand (North and South Island)
areas of improvement are the metal map, final texture, unit pathfinding and ocean depth.
is ready now as a 4 player map but it needs some more work.

Looks great, I hope you don't mind if i make a couple of suggestions?
Perhaps mess with the colour balances a little so the tops of the mountains are brown/grey not yellow... Perhaps you wanted it like this i dont know.
Try a bit of aggressive blurring to the texture, then overlay a higher detail black/white 'detail texture'. I know spring adds its own when you get close up, perhaps you could grab this, expand it a little and tile it over?
<springdirectory>\bitmaps\detailtex2.bmp
...Now I look back your first image looks a lot cleaner. Sorry if you've done this ^^^ already.
Good work otherwise.

The colors are surreal. And I don't like the mountains of those kind of map converted from geographical data. Couldn't you take the basic shape of New Zealand, but remake the relief to dimensions more suited to TA?
Something like what James Beatty did on his TA maps Epic Africa, Fortress Europe, Real Earth, where the shape of countries are easily recognizeable, and where they are filled with moutains, cities, etc... dimensionned to TA units.

Ok for starters the texture was just used to just show the heightmap so it's just temporary.
second I did have to blurr the heightmap in order to get the landscape to look more realistic.
and third I thought It would be cool to put TA into a real world perpective
"hmm what would a 100-1000 metre high krogroth look like strolling through my neighbourhood? oh like that freaky"
Edit: The screeshots where taken on two different computers NZNI0.jpg was taken on the better computer (athlon 2000xp, gf4 5700)
