Think about this

Your playing a 3v3 game
you have a rank 2 and a rank 4 on your team
If you could see their ranks, then you might want to send some aid to him before he really needs it

Or if you are planning on going air you might might to place your base near a high rank and not a low rank

Rank is meaningless, I am a 3-4 rank (forgot which) and I am fairly certain I can take a lot of stars out there, even though I haven't played a game in weeks...
