Ok, it completely breaks targeting, what patching I can do with the cylinder targeting breaks downward targeting. It is terribly frustrating as these are the few weeks before my semester that I can do some balance work. Is there any possibility of a fix release in the next week?

As a note, cylinder targeting does allow my units to target aircraft but it breaks all downward aiming. Meaning that any of my units in the air cannot fire down. Hell even units on a hill. This particularly breaks zeon as some of their key units need the ability to fire from the air but it also breaks many other units. So I have the choice, not hit aircraft or not shoot downhill or from the air.

I really need a fixed version of spring. I am graduating this semester and I need all of my time to make some serious strides forwards. I implore, beseech, beg, plead to you guys for a fix.

Actually downward targetting is the thing that works according to the changelog, i.e. the value of cylinderTargetting is multiplied bny the unit's radius to determine the vertical range. I have no idea why it uses the unit radius though, that makes zero sense.

Why was it ever changed to begin with?

It worked just fine before.

it made sense when I was making it, something to do with melee. Downward targetting is very broken in it (as in - cylinder is infinite in one direction), that's correct, patch is submitted; as is a patch that fixes the normal targeting and allows the modder to set any weapon's heightmod as he wishes.

someone made changes to aircraft and targetting code in the svn recently, one of which fixes that bug with aircraft crashing into buildings and getting stuck

smoth: please test the most recent build from http://www.osrts.info/~buildbot/spring/executable/ and shout loud and clear if it still breaks targeting (both cylinder and default.) Also, heightmod weapon tag can be used to change the shape of targeting sphere (less than 1 => taller sphere (eggish), more than one => more like a pie than a sphere.)

Also in the next spring update, random start locations should be fixed! 1v1s are kinda borked now.

if he didn't submit it to mantis, I just made a ticket (576), he should submit the patch there. if he did, he should post that it's a dupe. either way I guess we need to wait for tobi, and there's that ugly LuaUI memory corruption/dangling pointer/whatever bigger evil there is crash that fortunately doesn't occur that often.
