Invisible water, no water, canyons.. ???

Post by Eaglebird »

Let's say you want a map with no real 'ground floor'. You want canyons deep as fuck, basically. Well, we could do it be scaling a heightmap to enormous amounts, but then, the floor is still there isn't it? So what happens if we lose a plane in it, or worse, lose the camera in it?

So instead, lets make damaging water to simulate an endless, fatal abyss. But wait, I can still see the water, and if I put it all the way down at the bottom, our camera and planes will still fly down there before we get to another island or what not, won't they?

Anyone got an idea?

In the SMD put the tag "voidwater=1". I think thats it anyways. That will make the water invisible and show the skybox underneath.
Note that it also makes ground edges touching the water look crappy, so people rarely use this.
