Mapping forum and utter fail
We have a private mapping forum for mappers, and the gatekeeper to this forum has since left the community.
Whatsmore the insistence that only mappers with a released map who request to go there can post there is absurd. You dont need to have released a map to know what your talking about.
I find nothing more annoying than reading thread, going to answer a question, and being told I'm not allowed to post there and feeling powerless over the following days as the threads occupants try to figur eit out for themselves usually without success.

The official method is to pm Foreboding Angel to ask for access.
Foreboding Angel pretty much left spring a few weeks ago and hasnt posted since.
To get into the mappers forum you have to have released a map.
You dont need to have released a map to know something that could help.
Right now the mapping forum is locked to a select number of individuals. Theres no method for people to gain entry of any kind whatsoever, and nobody in charge of it.

Having a mappers only forum was a good idea at the time. Their was
only a few people making maps. Now there are more making maps
now. I don't think it's a big deal. If you want access you, just PM
Foreboding Angel an ask for access.
If their isn't a moderator to give access to that forum, then some one
needs to get proper access. If you need some to be a moderator for
the mapping forum, I'll be glad to help out.

The map forum is a nogo zone by default. No new users. No method for pulling them in. Plenty of potential posters.Foreboding Angel, smoths forum, may 24th wrote:Sadly, I have recently decided to pretty much wash my hands of the spring community.
In fact, Swiftspear, if you see this, would you do me a huge favor and delete my account from the spring forums? I don't want to even be able to post there anymore.
I've about had it with spring.
I am currently looking for any decent RTS's being developed using the torque shader engine RTS thingy. Simply because I want to see if anything has gotten to a good level in the engine yet. THe engine itself looks pretty promising.
AF has a point but I think a lot of you guys are missing it --
There shouldn't be private development forums period. Why do you think the mailing lists and svn are public and available ? So anyone with talent can come in and write a patch, try some testing, help with debugging, whatever.
If you're going to make a closed map forum, what incentive is there to try to create maps, it's a small catch 22.
IMO - If you're concerned about the 'spring community' just turning the forum into trash, the moderators and admins should crack down on them (you know who you are, most of yall are clan members).
My 2 cents.

I would support a full removal of the map forumw ith tis contents moved here.
Posting there is a mistake anyway. By starting your thread in the mapping forum you cut yourself off from the vast majority of the spring communities expertise. Private but public readable forums also cause resentment in the userbase leading to accusations of elitism and discord.

hmm.. so the big fuss here is that peeps who want in on gthe mapping forum can't get in cause FA left... well my question is... how the hell can Forb (a standard or nearly standard) account on the forums have that ability and not the mods here...??? if that is indeed true thats just silly and should be a quick fix for a super admin or whatever they are called here....
The mapping forum atm serves no real point. Its a private forum for a select few, which is awkward to get access to and once your in there there are a few threads which are always left open ended because the necessary experience is outside with no access to post.
The main reason for its creation was to protect mappers from the flamers, but they're mostly gone now and those that're left have moved to the other forums. That and user mapping forum threads are more likely to be map releases than mapping forum threads, and its those threads that were the centre of flame attention to start with.
