need graphics card advice quickly!

Post by Dragon45 »

Okay so in about an hour from the time im writing this post im getting a surprise present - a new graphics card. Found out about this a few minutes ago. Otherwise i would have done my homework properly.

but i have a notebook so i need to know where i can buy a good 3D card (ATI Mobility radeon or its nvidia counterpart) BUT - here's the catch - it needs to be a brick and mortar store. So NewEgg, tigerdirect, etc, won't help.

I'm near Danville, CA right now btw. I don't think Best Buy and Fry's carry mobile GPUs; i already checked their sites, but could someone doublecheck for me?

Help me, internetz! HELP MEEE!

Get a 7600 Go, I think you can steal one at Fry's from a demo box.

You can buy a graphics card for a laptop? :|

Well anyway. Go for the best Nvidia you can find. ATi's no slouch for mobile GPUs really (I have an x200 in my laptop, and I'm pleased with it), but Nvidia's probably the best bet.

7600 Go 512 MB is the best graphics card I've ever used, on the whole. Recent instability bedamned, I can pass two hundred FPS in Spring on a laptop from time to time!

Yep, definitely impossible request. Stores nearby didn't have them, stores online dont even have them, as far as i can see. NewEgg has some 64 meg models but those are ATI RAdeon anyway. and of coiurse, 64 megs sucks.
